Specific probe-enzyme combinations give highly reproducible patterns. • With the advent of PCR technology a number of simpler techniques have become available for molecular characterisation. • These include, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and its several variants, intersimple sequence repeats (ISSR), amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and sequence tagged microsatellites sites (STMS).
