Brassica is a genus of plants belonging to the mustard family (Brassicaceae) and includes some of the most widely cultivated and consumed vegetables globally. The Brassica group encompasses a diverse range of cool-season crops, including broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, and mustard, among others (Fig. 8.1). These vegetables are not only rich in nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants but also play a vital role in human health, food security, and sustainable agriculture.
• India is one of the largest producers of Brassica vegetables, with a  significant portion of the crop being cultivated in the Indo-Gangetic plains. According to the Indian Horticultural Database, Brassica vegetables are grown on approximately 2.5 million hectares of land, with a total production of over 30 million metric tons annually. The major Brassica-producing states in India include Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
• The importance of Brassica vegetables extends beyond their nutritional value and economic significance. They are also an integral part of Indian cuisine and culture, with various regional and traditional recipes featuring these vegetables as main ingredients. In contrast to in situ methods, remote sensing allows us to gather information about the atmosphere without physically touching it. Instead, it relies on the detection of electromagnetic radiation (or acoustic waves) that has been emitted, reflected, or scattered by the atmosphere or its constituents.
This chapter will focus specifically on ground-based remote sensing platforms. Positioned on or near the Earth’s surface, these instruments offer unique advantages for continuous monitoring of the atmosphere above a fixed location, providing valuable insights into vertical profiles, temporal evolution, and localized phenomena. From radars that peer into storms to lidars that probe aerosols and winds, and radiometers that measure emitted radiation, ground-based remote sensing provides a vital link between highly localized in situ measurements and the broader spatial coverage offered by satellite and
airborne systems.
We will delve into the fundamental principles behind several key groundbased remote sensing instruments used in meteorology. This will include an examination of how they interact with the atmosphere, the types of atmospheric parameters they can measure (such as precipitation, wind, temperature, humidity, aerosols, and trace gases), and the strengths and limitations of each technique. By understanding the capabilities of these ground-based “eyes” on the sky, we can better appreciate their contribution to weather forecasting, atmospheric research, and environmental monitoring.

8.1 Introduction
Having explored the intricate processes of meteorological data collection, storage, and the crucial steps of quality control and preprocessing, we nowturn our attention to how this vast and meticulously  prepared information is actually analyzed and interpreted. This brings us to the realm of statistical methods, which are indispensable tools for making sense of the inherent variability, uncertainty, and sheer volume of meteorological data. Meteorological phenomena are complex, influenced by numerous interacting factors, and often exhibit chaotic behavior. Statistical methods provide the rigorous framework necessary to quantify these complexities, identify underlying patterns, assess relationships between different atmospheric variables, and ultimately, draw robust conclusions. From summarizing observed climate patterns to evaluating forecast accuracy, and from detecting long-term trends to predicting future weather events, statistics permeate nearly every aspect of modern meteorology.
This chapter will introduce the fundamental statistical concepts and techniques applied in meteorological analysis. We will begin with descriptive statistics to summarize and visualize data, then move to inferential statistics to draw conclusions about atmospheric processes from samples. We will delve into methods for understanding relationships, such as correlation and regression analysis, and explore techniques for analyzing time series data to identify trends and periodicities. Furthermore, we will touch upon spatial statistics for gridded data and the growing role of machine learning approaches. By mastering these statistical tools, meteorologists can transform raw data into meaningful insights, enhance predictive capabilities, and advance our scientific understanding of the Earth’s atmosphere.

While today we rely on sophisticated instruments, satellite imagery, and complex computer models to forecast and analyze weather for agriculture, our ancestors possessed an astute understanding of the natural world, honed through generations of observation. In ancient times, the acquisition of weather information for agricultural planning was a deeply empirical and often culturally embedded process.
Without thermometers, rain gauges, or barometers, early agricultural communities relied heavily on direct observation of natural phenomena. They meticulously watched the sky, noting the color and movement of clouds, the intensity and duration of rainfall, and the prevailing wind patterns. The appearance of halos around the sun or moon, the frequency of lightning, and even the behavior of animals were often interpreted as harbingers of impending weather changes.

The process through which heat energy is transferred from a body at higher temperature to a body at lower temperature without any material medium between the two bodies is x called radiation. The outer surface of the the Sun is at higher temperature compared to the surface of the earth. Solar radiation is the electromagnetic energy emitted by the Sun. It is the primary source of energy for the Earth’s climate system, driving atmospheric and oceanic circulation, influencing weather patterns, and sustaining life through photosynthesis.2 This energy travels through space as electromagnetic waves, encompassing a broad spectrum of wavelengths, from high-energy gamma rays and X-rays to ultraviolet, visible, infrared, and radio waves. At first, implementing biosecurity measures in aquaculture may seem like a simple concept. The well-known saying “prevention is better than cure” is especially relevant to aquaculture diseases, given the significant economic consequences of disease outbreaks. Effective biosecurity practices can help prevent these costly issues from arising. Biosecurity is a comprehensive and coordinated strategy that includes policies and regulations designed to assess and manage risks across various sectors, such as food safety, animal health, and plant health, while also addressing related environmental risks. FUNCTIONS OF THE POWER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
1. To transfer power from the engine to the tractor’s rear wheels.
2. To provide reduced speeds to the rear wheels as required.
3. To adjust the ratio between wheel speed and engine speed to match varying field conditions.

From the dawn of settled agriculture, the rhythm of seasons and the vagaries of weather have dictated the fortunes of human societies. The earliest farmers were keen observers of the skies, their very survival intricately linked to predicting rainfall, temperature fluctuations, and the onset of frost. This fundamental dependence fostered the nascent field of agricultural meteorology, an art and science passed down through generations, relying on empirical knowledge and local wisdom. Think of the ancient civilizations that timed their planting cycles with the flooding of rivers, or the traditional weather lore that guided farmers on when to sow and harvest. Even today, this fundamental understanding remains crucial, forming the bedrock upon which modern agricultural meteorology is built (Fig.1.1).  However, the 21st century presents agricultural systems with unprecedented complexities. The looming shadow of climate change manifests in increasingly erratic weather patterns: intensified heatwaves scorching crops, prolonged droughts decimating livestock, and more frequent and severe floods inundating arable land. These changes disrupt traditional agricultural practices, threaten yields, and exacerbate food insecurity, particularly in vulnerable regions. The comfortable predictability of the past is eroding, demanding a far more sophisticated and proactive approach than ever before.

The professor of English Language, a figure known for their insightful questions and ability to illuminate the intricacies of the English lexicon, stood before the class. Their gaze swept across the eager faces of the students, finally settling on one in particular. Liposomes are bubble-like structures made up of (phospho)lipids that form on their own and surround an area of water in the middle with two or more overlapping layers of lipids. Liposomes are between 30 and micrometers in size and are made up of two phospholipid layers that are 4-5 nm thick. British scientists Alec Bangham and his colleagues at Babraham Cambridge were the first to describe the structure of liposomes in 1964 (Kozubek et al., 2000; Samad et al., 2007). This was in the middle of the 1960s and was a big step forward for the field of liposomology. Following this, liposomes have been studied in great detail because they can carry imaging agents, proteins, nucleic acids, and small chemicals. Many ways of giving medicine have been created to make treatment more effective and help patients stick with it. These include parenteral, pulmonary, oral, transdermal, ophthalmic, and nasal methods. In addition, liposomes are used a lot in the food and beauty industries (Maurer et al., 2001). Liposomes are very good at delivering drugs because they keep the parts inside from breaking down naturally, increase the half-life of the drug, manage the release of drug molecules, and are very safe and compatible with living things. Liposomes can improve therapeutic benefits by passively or actively targeting to deliver their payload to the affected area. This raises the maximum dose that can be tolerated, lowers the risk of systemic side effects, and improves treatment results. When compared to normal tissue, which has strong links between endothelial cells, abnormal tissues like solid tumors or inflammatory sites have more permeable capillaries (Szoka, 2019; Allen and Cullis, 2013; Fielding, 1991).
The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect is when liposomes can quietly gather and stay in damaged tissues by passing through the broken neovasculature. When the liposome interacts with certain molecules and receptors on the surface of tumor cells, this is called active targeting (Saraf et al., 2020). Some receptors, like folic acid, integrin, CD44, CD13, prostate-specific membrane antigen, vascular endothelial growth factor, and epidermal growth factor, may be overexpressed in tumor cells. Certain ligands could be used to change the surface of liposomes, as shown by the receptors. Antibodies, nucleic acids, protein peptides, iNGR, small molecules like folic acid, and carbohydrates are some of these ligands. Besides being used for specific medicines, liposomes are also a great way to get drugs to people who need them. However, liposomes have not yet reached their full potential because there are only 14 different types of liposomal goods on the market. We have learned more about commercial liposomal products that have been approved by both the FDA and the EMA through this research. The materials used in commercial goods and the ways they are made are both carefully thought out (Nekkanti and Kalepu, 2015; Olusanya et al., 2018).

(Guimarães, Cavaco-Paulo, & Nogueira, 2021) The size of liposomes can vary from tens to hundreds of nanometers, making them suitable for both systemic and targeted drug delivery applications. Liposomes can be formulated to exhibit specific properties such as prolonged circulation time, enhanced stability and targeted delivery.(Simões, Moreira, Fonseca, Düzgünes, & De Lima, 2004) The versatility of liposomes is due to their ability to encapsulate drugs within the aqueous core, embed drugs within the lipid bilayers, or attach drugs onto the liposomal surface through chemical conjugation or targeting ligands. This flexibility allows for the development of multifunctional liposomal formulations capable of encapsulating multiple drugs which facilitate combination therapy and theranostic applications.(Cheng et al., 2021; Eloy et al., 2014) Liposomes also offer several advantages over conventional drug delivery systems, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, and low immunogenicity. These characteristics minimize the risk of adverse reactions and systemic toxicity which makes the liposomes suitable for repeated dosing and long-term therapeutic applications.(Al-Jamal & Kostarelos, 2011; Alavi, Karimi, & Safaei, 2017; Goyal et al., 2005) However, liposomal drug delivery systems are also associated with several challenges which include issues related to stability, scalability, and manufacturing consistency.(Kraft, Freeling, Wang, & Ho, 2014)

Nanomedicine, utilizing nanoparticles for therapeutic purposes, has captured significant interest in both research and industry. Numerous FDA-approved products demonstrate its clinical potential. Liposomes, spherical vesicles with phospholipid bilayers, have emerged as a prominent platform for drug delivery. They offer a versatile carrier system for a wide range of therapeutics, including the successful encapsulation of doxorubicin, an anticancer agent, leading to improved efficacy and reduced side effects. Additionally, liposomes have been explored extensively for nucleic acid delivery, such as siRNA and DNA, enhancing cellular penetration and protecting drugs from degradation. Liposomes were among the first nanotechnologies to reach the market in 1995 and remain a major platform today. Notably, the first FDA-approved mRNA vaccine for COVID-19 (2020) utilizes lipidic/liposomal nanocarriers for delivery. However, despite their advantages, formulating, developing, and manufacturing liposomes presents significant challenges.
The complexity of nano formulations and nanomanufacturing stems from the unique physicochemical properties at the nanoscale. A greater number of variables need to be understood and optimized compared to traditional drug delivery systems. This lack of comprehensive understanding often leads to sensitivity and poor reproducibility in nano-preparations and manufacturing. For such complex systems, experimental approaches that identify critical parameters and their influence on the final product are crucial. Quality by Design (QbD) offers a solution, advocated for by various industries and regulatory bodies. QbD begins with defining the Quality Target Product Profile (QTPP), outlining the essential quality attributes (QA) of the final product for safety and efficacy. These QAs are influenced by critical material attributes (CMA) and process parameters (CPP). QbD then focuses on optimizing CMA and CPP by setting target specifications that ensure the desired QAs and ultimately achieve the QTPP (Alshaer et al., 2022).
A proper experimental design is employed to link CMA and CPP to QA. This facilitates establishing targeted specifications for materials, processes, and the final product. Furthermore, QbD enables the evaluation of multiple factors simultaneously and prioritizes QA through risk assessments. Given the success of liposomal-based drugs in clinical use and their diverse pre-clinical applications, a strategic and systematic approach to liposome development is necessary. QbD offers a framework to create better drug delivery systems for enhanced therapeutic efficacy. While previous research has explored QbD for liposomal drug delivery, there is a growing need to understand and describe the latest advancements in using QbD for liposomal formulations. This will pave the way for liposomalbased drug delivery systems with superior therapeutic outcomes and potential for industrial development (Alshweiat et al., 2019).

This approach encompasses use of a wide range of automated technologies, including Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, sensor networks and automated machinery.
The significance of precision farming lies in its potential to revolutionize agriculture by addressing sustainability and conservation of resources. Precision farming is able to tailor farming practices to specific field conditions. This sitespecific management approach minimizes resource wastage, incumbent costs and environmental hazards. It enhances crop management through real-time monitoring and data analysis. By the use of GPS fitted automated machinery, drones and robotic harvesters and advanced decision support system labour costs are reduced and efficiency is increased (Gebbers and Adamchuk, 2010).By employing soil sensors, and satellite imagery, farmers can gain valuable insights of soil moisture, nutrient levels and pest infestations which helps in irrigation scheduling and adequate fertilizer application (Srinivasan et al., 2019). In contemporary agriculture, the need for sensor-based approaches in soil management has become increasingly apparent. These approaches harness cuttingedge technology and data-driven solutions to optimize soil health, crop production and resource utilization. One of the primary advantages of sensor-based approaches is their ability to monitor soil moisture levels. Soil moisture sensors, such as those based on time-domain reflectometry (TDR) or capacitance technology, provide continuous data on soil moisture content at different depths (Dzikiti et al., 2012). In addition to monitoring moisture and nutrients, sensors can assess other vital soil parameters. Soil pH sensors help maintain the optimal pH level for crop growth, as soil pH can affect nutrient availability. Compaction sensors identify areas of soil compaction, allowing for targeted tillage practices to alleviate compaction and improve root growth. These are just a few examples of how physical parameter sensors can address soil health challenges, as documented in studies by Marchetti et al. (2018) which emphasizes the role of sensors in mitigating soil erosion. Chemical parameters sensors like soil nutrient sensors, such as ion-selective electrodes, can measure key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. This information enables farmers to tailor their fertilization practices with pinpoint accuracy through variable rate technology (VRT) (Zhao et al., 2018). Moreover, sensor data can be integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS) to create detailed soil maps, aiding in sitespecific management strategies.

Essential Climate variable (ECV) is very important to our planet which can be recognized by GCOS (Global Climate Observing System). Important sustainable development issues say drought, flood management, food security, ecological health and water resources are being impacted by the soil moisture. Soil moisture changes have also a role in evapotranspiration, rainfall, and the runoff distribution and intensities. (Zeng et al., 2023).
Soil moisture content (SMC) have a huge impact in shaping the water, carbon cycles of earth and energy balance in different scales of time and space. It is an important factor for the effective water management due to its influence on the precipitation, surface temperature and evaporation which will be affecting the processes say river runoff, vegetation health, and irrigation practices. The highcost traditional methods make to overlook for SMC in environmental modelling (Edokossi et al., 2020). The atmospheric and the land surface process are blinked by the key facto of SMC as said by Robinson et al. (2008). For gaining the knowledge on water, carbon cycles and energy as well as for studying extreme weather conditions, understanding soil moisture is very much needed. (Vereecken et al., 2014; Li et al., 2007; Seneviratne et al., 2010; Robock & Li, 2006).
Due to the soil moisture’s impact on the factors say when to plant, when to blossom and when to harvest the crop, soil moisture should be considered as the important factor as it is in improving the water resources and boost the agricultural output. Remote sensing methods like microwave remote sensing plays vital role in creating maps depicting the distribution of soil moisture spatially and temporally high resolutions. These maps help in effective crop planning, in-season drought assessment, irrigation and soil managements. The traditional methods like TDR probe, Soil moisture utilizing neutron probe and gravimetric methods are inefficient in studying the soil moisture with high spatial and temporal resolutions due to factors like Variations in terrain, soil type and land use pattern. We can overcome these and enhance our ability to map soil moisture in different scales through the recent advancements of microwave remote sensing (active and passive microwave remote sensing) which are having advantages like clear, accurate and timely measurements of soil moisture content.
Irrigation water sources are controlled through the soil moisture studies by executing the sustainable water management plans and by monitoring high yields despite the environmental changes, increasing water demands and climate changes. To predict the agricultural output, irrigation management, drought early warning, creating vegetation indices, soil moisture study with high temporal and spatial resolutions will be a key factor as it improves the crop stress reduction also which are the major driving forces of yield reduction (Doraiswamy et al., 2004). So, the soil moisture has a direct impact on the crop yield which are studied using variable rate technology say selective application of pesticides which can improve farmers financially as well as environmentally (Harris et al.,1964).

A per McMahon and Diaz Arenas (1982) define drought as “a period of abnormally dry weather sufficiently prolonged for the lack of precipitation to cause a serious hydrological imbalance, carrying connotations of a moisture deficiency with respect to man’s usage of water”. Apart from these several general definitions have been provided by many authors. Beran and Rodier (1985) gave a definition based on hydrological aspect of drought that, ‘The chief characteristic of a drought is a decrease of water availability in a particular period and over a particular area’. India meteorological department (IMD) has defined drought as a situation in a subdivision in a year when the actual rainfall is less than 75% of the normal annual rainfall. Basically, to define drought the impact on environment and society and their complex interaction must be considered. Drought is defined as a state of total water capacity being within the range of 12-20% for a period of 16 days and can be distinguished from water deficit, which is the state of water capacity falling below 30%. Drought affects crop development, production, productivity and quality and on other hand soil physical, chemical and biological properties.

In the context of agriculture, citizen science offers a unique opportunity for farmers, gardeners, and other stakeholders to contribute to the monitoring and management of pests and diseases. Traditionally, pest and disease monitoring and management in agriculture have relied heavily on professional scientists and extension agents. Millets are a diverse group of small-seeded grasses that have been cultivated and consumed for thousands of years. They are rich in essential nutrients such as proteins, fibers, vitamins, and minerals, making them an important addition to a balanced diet. Millets are not only rich in essential nutrients but also have several health benefits. They are known to have nutraceutical properties, low glycemic index, making them suitable for individuals with diabetes. Additionally, millets are a good source of antioxidants, which can help in reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. The diverse range of millet varieties also provides flexibility in incorporating them into various dishes, making them suitable for different culinary preferences and dietary requirements. Therefore, the usage of millets can play a crucial role in promoting sustainable and healthy eating habits.
Malnutrition continues to be a pressing issue worldwide, particularly in developing countries (Ashok et al., 2020). The lack of access to nutritious food is one of the main causes of malnutrition, leading to various health problems such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and celiac disease (Birania et al., 2020). To address this issue, millets have emerged as a promising solution. Despite being nutritionally superior to other cereals, millets have traditionally been limited to consumption by the poor and those with conventional dietary practices. However, there is a growing recognition of the potential of millets in combating malnutrition and improving public health. Millets, such as finger millet, pearl millet, and sorghum, are often referred to as “superfoods” due to their high nutritional content (Singh et al., 2020). These grains are rich in protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, making them an ideal source of essential nutrients (Ashok et al., 2020). Additionally, millets are easily available and costeffective, making them a viable option for addressing malnutrition on a larger scale (Birania et al., 2020). Furthermore, millets are resilient crops that can withstand environmental changes and water shortages, making them an ideal choice for sustainable agriculture. In this chapter, we delve deeper into specific aspects of millet nutrition, examining their micronutrient profiles, health benefits, culinary versatility, and potential applications in combating malnutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture. By understanding the nutritional richness of millets, we can uncover innovative solutions for improving human health and fostering agricultural resilience.

Introduction
A plant seed consists of an embryo and reserve food material (endosperm/ cotyledon) which is surrounded by a protective seed coat. The seed ensures that the next generation of plants exists. The embryo is made up of one or two cotyledons attached to a central axis. The upper part of the axis contains a plumule at its tip. The plumule grows into the shoot system. The lower part of the axis consists of the hypocotyl and a radicle. The radicle grows into the root system. The endosperm is the food reserve that the embryo uses during the early stages of germination. Before the embryo is able to produce its own food through photosynthesis, the endosperm provides vital nutrients to the embryo. Seed stands as an essential and fundamental agricultural input. It can be characterized as a propagative entity that facilitates the continuation of species from one generation to the next. Alternatively, it can be described as a mature fertilized ovule. Seeds play multifaceted roles for their parent plants, encompassing embryo nourishment, dispersion to novel locations, and entering a state of dormancy during adverse environmental circumstances. Seeds originate from various sources like self-pollination, cross-pollination, vegetative propagation, and mechanisms such as apomixis, resulting in diverse varieties or hybrids. Maintaining the genetic consistency of cross-pollinated seeds presents notable challenges. Certain fruit crops encounter obstacles in natural seed propagation due to factors like seed heterozygosity, diminished endosperm size, or minuscule seed dimensions. Additionally, some seedless fruits cannot be propagated conventionally through seeds. Seeds frequently become susceptible to seed-transmitted diseases, facilitating the transmission of diseases across different geographical areas. These constraints in seed-based propagation have spurred the exploration of alternative techniques for species proliferation. This exploration led to the emergence of the concept of synthetic seeds within the realm of plant tissue culture. Synthetic seeds are also known as synseeds or artificial seeds or somatic seeds, seed analog, or manufactured seed. The concept of synthetic seeds has been described in various manners by different researchers. Capuano et al., (1998) defined synthetic seeds as somatic embryos that are enclosed artificially, originating from shoot buds, cell aggregates, or any suitable plant tissue for sowing purposes. These synthetic seeds are capable of developing into plants under controlled in vitro or ex vitro conditions and can maintain this potential even after prolonged storage. Another definition of synthetic or artificial seeds comes from Gray and Purohit (1991) and Redenbaugh (1993), who refer to them as somatic embryos designed for use in the commercial propagation of plants.

Introduction
Plant being sessile are subjected to a myriad of biotic and abiotic stresses that impede growth and resulting significant losses in crop productivity globally (Bhat et al., 2019; Ganie & Reddy, 2021). In this context, there is an immediate need to develop high yielding climate-resilient crop varieties for ensuring food security in the face of increasing population growth. Although conventional breeding has achieved notable success in the development of high-yielding crop varieties (Bhat et al., 2020), but this approach is slow to maintain pace with ever increasing population. In this regard, more recent approach of genomics-assisted breeding (GAB) has emerged as a pivotal approach to develop the high-yielding climate resilient crop varieties (Bhat et al. 2021). Although, low-throughput sequencebased markers like simple sequence repeats (SSRs) have been extensively utilized in molecular breeding programs, but they have the limitations of reduced genomic coverage and high cost (Varshney et al., 2014; Zargar et al., 2015). In this context, the emergence of second-generation DNA marker systems has provided higher genomic coverage and low cost in marker-assisted breeding. For example, recent advancements in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and genotyping platforms have substantially enhanced marker density and genomic coverage while reducing costs (Przewieslik-Allen et al., 2019); thus rendering them commercially available for both model and non-model crop species (Huang & Han, 2014; Rasheed et al., 2017). These high-throughput genotyping platforms provides millions of DNA polymorphisms (Bassi et al., 2016; Ganal et al., 2012), thereby enhancing gene mapping resolution and prediction accuracy in genomic selection (GS) (Robertsen et al., 2019; Yu et al., 2019). Most of the agriculturally important crop traits, such as yield, quality, and stress tolerance, possess complex inheritance i.e., governed by multiple genes with minor effect on trait of interest as well as are highly influenced by genotype-by-environment (G × E) interactions (Voss-Fels & Snowdon, 2016). The conventional linkage mapping approach has elucidated the genetic basis of agriculturally important complex traits but this approach involves the use of bi-parental mapping populations which are constrained by the limited genetic diversity, low resolution, and restricted recombination events (Brachi et al., 2011; Collard et al., 2005). Consequently, the genome-wide association study (GWAS) has emerged as a powerful approach for dissecting the genetic basis of complex quantitative traits in crop plants, resulting higher resolution and allelic diversity (Varshney et al., 2020; Zhu et al., 2008). Moreover, owing to the availability of cost-effective and high-density genotyping platforms, has allowed the routine use of GS in the crop breeding which is more recent approach of GAB (Crossa et al., 2017). In recent years, the advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based genotyping techniques has significantly allowed the genotyping of extensive germplasm collections, enabling comprehensive GWAS and GS analyses (Annicchiarico et al., 2017; Zargar et al., 2015). Nonetheless, the predominant limitations impeding the utilization of SNPs in the GWAS and GS approaches encompass their inherently biallelic nature, the occurrence of rare alleles, and the prevalence of linkage drag (Voss-Fels & Snowdon, 2016; Wray et al., 2013). In

Based on the mode of reproduction, plants are broadly classified into sexually propagated and asexually propagated crops and some of the agricultural crops and a large number of horticultural crops are asexually propagated. The most important asexually propagated crops cultivated on a global basis are potato (Solanum tuberosum), cassava (Manihot esculenta), sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), sugarcane (Saccharum spp), yam (Dioscorea spp.), taro (Colocasia esculenta), banana (Musa paradisiaca), etc. In sexually propagated crops, seeds are the primary propagules and it is produced by the fertilization of male and female gametes. Whereas, asexual reproduction or clonal reproduction covers all those modes of multiplication of plants where normal gamete formation and fertilization do not take place and vegetative propagules are the means of reproduction. Since sexual reproduction involves meiosis, segregation and recombination, the creation of variation is a continuous process which is inevitable in these crops. On the other hand, in asexual propagation, progenies are identical to the parent clones and they are genetically similar without any variation and they reproduce via mitosis.
Characteristics of asexually propagated crops
• Majority of the asexually propagated crops are perennials, e.g., sugarcane, fruit trees, etc. The annual crops are mostly tuber crops, e.g., potato, cassava, sweet potato, etc.
• Many of these crops show reduced flowering and seed set, and some varieties of these crops do not flower at all. But many of these crops flower regularly and show satisfactory seed set.
• They are invariably cross-pollinated and highly heterozygous and show severe inbreeding depression.
• A vast majority of asexually propagated crops are either polyploids. eg., sugarcane, potato, sweet potato, etc., or have polyploid species or varieties.
• Many cultivated crops are interspecific hybrids, ex., banana, sugarcane, etc.
• These crops consist of a large number of clones, that is, progeny derived from a single plant through asexual reproduction. Thus, each variety of an asexually propagated crop is a clone.

A significant challenge in the field of chemistry lies in the application of green methodologies aimed at enhancing the efficiency, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability of chemical processes in alignment with contemporary green chemistry goals. Recent global environmental issues have motivated researchers to create and implement more sustainable chemical practices to reduce the reliance on and generation of harmful toxic materials. The importance of coupling reactions lies in their role as effective and robust techniques for synthesizing key pharmaceutical agents, polymers, and natural products (Colberg, 2022). Crosscoupling reactions are particularly focused on the formation of C-C (carbon-carbon) and C-X (carbon-heteroatom) bonds. For the last three decades, cross-coupling chemistry has been widely utilized to facilitate the development, discovery, & market introduction of innovative types of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals (Carsten Bolm, 2012).
In cross-coupling polymer reactions, two reagents equipped with activating functional groups engage with a specific metal catalyst, culminating in creating a new covalent bond. The loss of the activating groups carries out this process. In the 1940s, Kharasch and Fields first discovered the cross-coupling reactions using Grignards reagent with aryl or alkyl halides in the presence of metal halides such as NiCl2, CoCl2, FeCl3, CrCl2, or CuCl2 as a suitable catalyst. (Wu, 2021). Cross-coupling reactions have tremendous valuable applications in many vital areas, such as powerful tools for synthesizing essential pharmaceuticals, natural products, polymers, and agrochemicals. Furthermore, cross-coupling reactions have facilitated the synthesis of important molecules with industrial relevance, such as losartan, which is produced through a late-stage Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. Additionally, these reactions have created previously unattainable molecules, as the Suzuki coupling reaction ranks as the second most prevalent reaction in medicinal chemistry (Kotha, 2022). The predominance of sp2-hybridized carbon nucleophiles and electrophiles in most cross-coupling reactions has presented challenges in the pharmaceutical sector, as the “flattening” of many pharmaceutical targets results in a reduced number of specific drugs and an increase in off-target interactions. Nevertheless, crosscoupling reactions exemplify the capacity of robust synthetic methodologies to profoundly influence and inspire molecular design within the chemical industry. Recent trends in advances with the cross-coupling reactions are enabling the development of new reaction mechanisms, the synthesis of new compounds & development of new catalysts, and reactions that proceed under milder conditions.

Agriculture has long been at the mercy of the weather, and in today’s datadriven world, harnessing meteorological information is more critical than ever. Weather intelligence—the process of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating weather data—supports decision-making in diverse fields such as aviation, transportation, emergency management, and especially agriculture (Fig 3.1). This chapter explores how advanced data acquisition methods and robust database management techniques underpin agricultural weather intelligence. It covers the variety of data sources available, details strategies for integrating and ensuring the quality of vast datasets, and examines the forecasting techniques that transform raw data into actionable insights for precision forecasting and decision making in food production. Skill Advancement and Knowledge Empowerment (SAKE) is crucial for ensuring that stakeholders, including farmers, agricultural advisors, policymakers, and meteorological service providers, have the necessary expertise to harness the benefits of agricultural meteorology (Fig. 13.1). This chapter focuses on the education, training, and capacity-building initiatives required to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals working in operational agricultural meteorology. It explores the various levels of education and training needed, from basic awareness and understanding of meteorological concepts to advanced technical skills and specialized knowledge in areas such as agrometeorological modeling, data analysis, and decision-support systems. The intersection of nanotechnology and microalgal biodiesel production presents a compelling avenue for addressing the pressing challenges of sustainability, energy security, and environmental conservation (Cai et al., 2021a). Microalgae, microscopic photosynthetic organisms, have emerged as a promising source for biodiesel due to their high lipid content, rapid growth rates, and potential for cultivation in diverse environments as compare to other sources as given in Fig. 1. However, the commercialization of microalgal biodiesel has been hampered by various limitations, including low lipid productivity, inefficient harvesting techniques, and high production costs. Nanotechnology, with its ability to manipulate materials at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions to enhance various stages of microalgal biodiesel production. From cultivation to processing, nanomaterials and nanodevices hold the potential to optimize efficiency, increase yields, and reduce environmental impacts. By improving light penetration, nutrient delivery, and CO2 utilization, nanotechnology-enabled systems enhance microalgal growth and lipid accumulation (Li et al., 2019; Cai et al., 2021b). Moreover, nanoscale structures facilitate the development of efficient harvesting methods, minimizing energy consumption and water usage. In biodiesel processing, nanocatalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity, enabling faster reaction times and higher yields in transesterification processes. Nanostructured membranes enhance the purification and separation of biodiesel, ensuring high-quality end products with minimal impurities. Despite these advancements, challenges such as scalability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel production persist (Zhao et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2019). This chapter aims to provide an overview of the current status and future prospects of integrating nanotechnology into microalgal biodiesel production. Through a 2 | Nanotools for Microalgal Biodiesel Production comprehensive analysis of recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities, we seek to elucidate the potential of nanotechnology to drive the commercialization and widespread adoption of sustainable microalgal biodiesel. By fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and leveraging emerging technologies, we can pave the way towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
