Introduction
The Kashmir Valley, situated in the western Himalayas between latitudes 33°01'N and 35°00'N and longitudes 73°48'E and 75°30'E, spans an area of 4,920 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 1,585 meters. This region is rich in water resources, featuring numerous lakes, rivers, and wetlands. The ecosystem benefits from a continuous supply of water from perennial glaciers, mountain streams, and a multitude of springs. It is estimated that more than Exclusively Distributed by NIPA GENX Electronic Resources and Solution Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi 6% of Kashmir's land surface is covered by various types of water bodies, enhancing the valley's natural beauty (Zutshi and Gopal, 2000). Whether from glaciers, springs, rivers, or lakes, the water in Kashmir contributes significantly to its picturesque landscape. The Kashmir Valley hosts a variety of 23 fish species, both native and introduced (Bhat et al., 2020). Cypriniformes, the largest group of freshwater fish, are divided into two main superfamilies: Cyprinoidea (carp like fishes) and Cobitoidea (loach fishes). This classification covers a wide variety of aquatic species, highlighting the extensive biodiversity within the Cypriniformes order (Nelson et al, 2016). The initial documentation of cold-water fish in India was provided by Hamilton in 1822. The Cobitidae family, known as true loaches, includes species such as Botia birdi found in the Kashmir Valley. The family Balitoridae, specifically the subfamily Nemacheilinae, in this region include two scaleless fish species earlier named as Cobitis vittata and C. marmorata by Heckel (1838) but Kullander et al. (1999) renamed them as Triplophysa marmorata and T. kashmirensis and Paraschistura punjabensis. Loaches are a fascinating subject for aquatic enthusiasts and researchers alike. Found predominantly in Eurasian waters, these bottom-dwelling fish are recognized for their distinctive elongated bodies, small scales, and barbels around the mouth which aid in their sensory and feeding functions. Loaches are renowned for their adaptability, thriving in a variety of habitats ranging from fast-flowing rivers to stagnant ponds. With over 200 species classified across several genera, loaches exhibit a remarkable range of behaviours and ecological roles, from the well-known clown loach (Chromobotia macracanthus), popular in the aquarium trade, to the stone loach (Barbatula barbatula), a species integral to the ecosystems of European rivers and streams (Nelson, 2006; Kottelat, 2012). Loaches play significant roles in their natural habitats, contributing to the benthic community dynamics and nutrient cycling. Their sensitivity to environmental changes makes them valuable bioindicators for assessing the health of freshwater ecosystems (Kottelat & Freyhof, 2007).

Introduction
An organism can be highly destructive in one habitat while coexisting peacefully in another. It is exceedingly challenging to forecast the impact of a new species on the local flora and fauna when it is brought into an ecosystem where it has never before lived naturally. In competition for resources and space, the imported species can surpass the native fauna. A delicate web of interdependence that gradually shaped over thousands of years is harmed when introduced species compete more successfully for resources because they have no predators in the area. In certain cases, they even kill and eat native populations (Raman et al., 2013). Fish species classified as non-native are those that have been intentionally introduced outside of their natural range (for example, to support aquaculture, improve a reservoir or recreational fishery, through the ornamental fish trade, or to control mosquitoes), accidentally introduced (for example, through bait releases, aquaculture escapes, or ballast water transport (Gupta and Everard, 2019), or introduced in the name of wellmeaning but misguided religious practices (Everard et al., 2019). Due to their higher birth rate, the tendency to feed on local fish species, increased growth rate, larger size, longer life spans, or competition for comparable food supplies and habitat, these species may negatively impact native fish species (Ricciardi and Rsmussen, 1998).
The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) classifies alien invasive species as those that spread quickly through natural or semi-natural ecosystems or habitats, act as change agents, and endanger the biological diversity of the host species. These invasive are widely dispersed across the world's ecosystems, including every class of living thing (Raghubanshi et al., 2005). Fish native to the area compete with exotics for food and habitat. The quality of the aquatic ecosystems may deteriorate, new illnesses and parasites may be introduced, hybrids may be produced, native fish may be killed, and genetic "pollution" may occur. All of these will eventually cause the priceless biodiversity to disappear (Nyman, 1991). The socioeconomic facets of the human population that depend on aquatic environments for survival are also at danger, in addition to possible consequences on the quantity or quality of biodiversity (Philipp et al., 1995). The most varied group of vertebrates is fish, and freshwater fish in particular are thought to be among the most critically threatened animal species due to the introduction of alien (or non-native) species, which are species that do not typically occur in an aquatic environment (CONABIO, 2008). According to Contreras-Balderas (1999), these species hurt local populations when they are introduced and harm ecosystems by causing the water body to deteriorate. Structures such as terraces, check dams, and gully plugs must be consistently monitored and managed to ensure optimal performance over time. Essential tasks include frequent assessments, clearing of blockages or sediment build-up, and timely repairs to safeguard their structural integrity and operational efficiency.
Soil conservation refers to a collection of methods aimed at preserving soil from erosion and deterioration. At its core, soil conservation recognizes the soil as a living, dynamic system. One of its primary principles is the regular return of organic material to the soil, supporting its biological activity and overall health. Soil conservation can be compared to preventive maintenance on a car. Just like changing the oil, replacing filters, and inspecting spark plugs helps avoid costly engine damage, taking proactive steps to conserve soil now ensures its long-term productivity and health. Preventive measures in soil conservation help safeguard this essential resource for future use.

The countless organisms residing in the soil contribute significantly to its fertility and structure. These organisms decompose organic materials, release essential nutrients, and create pathways for air and water movement—crucial for soil health

Warehousing is a critical national strategy for conserving food grains. The proper storage and maintenance of notified commodities, primarily food grains, alongside safeguarding them from adverse weather, rodents, and natural decay, are vital for fostering the growth and development of the agricultural sector.
Post-harvest losses contribute to approximately 10% of total food grains, primarily due to improper storage methods, insects, rodents, microorganisms, and birds. The Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) takes on the responsibility of storing, handling, and warehousing notified commodities, including agricultural produce, industrial raw materials, finished goods, and various perishable and hygroscopic items. PSWC provides scientifically designed warehouses that protect both the quality and quantity of stored goods, aided by trained personnel.
At PSWC warehouses, stored products are safeguarded from rodents, pests, and moisture, ensuring their preservation. The provision of scientifically managed storage facilities for food grains, from procurement to distribution, is a vital function carried out by PSWC. PSWC has made significant strides in creating warehousing facilities throughout the state, constructing numerous warehouses in key rural and urban areas.
Rail-side warehousing facilities have also been established, offering costeffective and efficient storage solutions under a unified approach. Additionally, PSWC helps prevent distress sales, enabling producers to hold their products until favorable market conditions arise, thereby securing the best possible value for their goods.
Horizontal sheds are commonly used to offer low-cost, large-volume storage, and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has also built very large sheds for storing grains and other products. These sheds typically feature steel or corrugated sheet

A biogas plant is an engineered system designed to generate biogas through the anaerobic digestion of organic materials rich in cellulose, such as cow dung, agricultural residues, poultry waste, and other biodegradable biomass. In the absence of oxygen, microorganisms decompose these materials, producing a mixture of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and traces of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). This biogas can be utilized as a renewable energy source for cooking, heating, and power generation.
In India, cow dung has traditionally served as the primary substrate, and such systems were popularly known as Gobar Gas Plants. The early designs were promoted by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)

Liposomal drug delivery methods have received a lot of interest in the pharmaceutical industry because of their capacity to improve therapeutic efficacy while also reducing toxicity of encapsulated pharmaceuticals. Liposomes, which are spherical vesicles made up of lipid bilayers, provide targeted delivery of drugs, increased bioavailability, and controlled release of therapeutics (Gupta et al., 2023; Rana et al., 2023; Salave et al., 2023, 2024). However, guaranteeing the sterility of liposomal formulations is critical for their safety and efficacy, particularly in parenteral applications.
Sterilization is a validated process that achieves a microorganism-free product without altering its properties. In the pharmaceutical industry, a sterilization process is deemed valid when it successfully attains the necessary Sterility Assurance Level (SAL) of 10-6. The SAL represents the likelihood of contamination occurring after the sterilization process for a product with an initial biological load of 106 colonyforming units (Woedtke et al., 2008). The biological indicator used in this case is one of three bacterial species: Geobacillus stearothermophilus, Bacillus pumilus, or B. atrophaeus (Mcevoy et al., 2023). Accordingly, a product may be deemed “sterile” if the likelihood of a viable microorganism being present is equal to or less than 106. Liposomal formulations provide particular issues for sterilization due to their fragile nature and the physicochemical features of the encapsulated drugs. Sterilization plays a vital role in the production of liposomal formulations for parenteral administration. It is crucial to remove all viable microorganisms to prevent infections, maintain the effectiveness of therapeutic agents, and ensure patient safety. The delicate nature of liposomal carriers presents unique challenges in the sterilization process (Lombardo et al., 2022 a).
Traditional sterilization methods, such as autoclaving, dry heat, and chemical sterilization, are frequently not suitable for liposomal structures (Figure 1). The application of these techniques can lead to the breakdown of lipids, changes in phase, or destabilization of the drug contained within the formulation, resulting in a decrease in its therapeutic effectiveness (Zuidam et al., 1993 a). In addition, the physicochemical properties of liposomes, such as their size, lamellarity, and lipid composition, play a crucial role in determining their stability and how they react to sterilization methods.
Considering these limitations, the pharmaceutical industry has investigated alternative methods of sterilization that guarantee the elimination of microorganisms while preserving the integrity of liposomes. A commonly used method for sterilizing liposomal formulations is filtration through sterile membrane filters with pore sizes of 0.2 micrometers (Goldbach et al., 1995 a). This

Liposomal formulations have emerged as a revolutionary platform in drug delivery systems, significantly enhancing the therapeutic efficacy and safety profile of numerous pharmaceutical agents (Crommelin et al., 2015). Liposomes are spherical vesicles composed of lipid bilayers, providing a versatile and biocompatible method for encapsulating both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs (Nsairat et al., 2022) (Liu et al., 2022). This encapsulation protects drugs from degradation, reduces systemic toxicity, and enhances their bioavailability (Gubernator, 2011). Beyond their protective capabilities, liposomes serve as an effective platform capable of delivering a diverse array of therapeutic agents, including conventional drugs, proteins, genes, and oligonucleotides (Gupta et al., 2023) (Salave et al., 2022 a) (Juliano et al., 2009). Their attractive biological properties, such as biocompatibility, enhanced solubility of hydrophobic compounds, stability of large molecules, and improved efficacy, position them as ideal candidates for advanced drug delivery systems. These properties enable precise targeting and controlled release strategies, thereby optimizing therapeutic outcomes across various medical applications (Polaka et al., 2021). The pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) properties of liposomal formulations are crucial determinants of their clinical success. Pharmacokinetics involves the study of the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of drugs, while pharmacodynamics focuses on the biochemical and physiological effects of drugs and their mechanisms of action (Li et al., 2019) (Negus et al., 2018). Understanding these parameters in the context of liposomal delivery is essential to optimize therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects.
Liposomal encapsulation can significantly alter the PK profile of a drug. By modifying drug release kinetics, liposomes can extend the half-life of encapsulated agents, ensuring sustained therapeutic effects and reducing dosing frequency (Rana et al., 2022). Moreover, the ability of liposomes to target specific tissues or cells through passive and active targeting mechanisms enhances drug distribution to the site of action, increasing efficacy and minimizing off-target effects (Salave et al., 2021)(Salave et al., 2022 b). For instance, the liposome surface can be covalently decorated with targeting ligands, enhancing binding and internalization by cancer cells that express receptors for these ligands (Riaz et al., 2018). These ligands can include immunoglobulins or their subunits, such as immunoglobulin fragment antigen binding (Fab’) and single-chain variable fragments (scFv), or nutrient molecules with affinity for cell surface receptors, such as transferrin and folate (Sapra et al., 2003) (Kang et al., 2011) (Cheng et al., 2010). Liposomes’ unique structural properties facilitate the incorporation of targeting ligands, pHsensitive components, and other modifications to refine the drug’s therapeutic profile (Salave et al., 2022 c)(Salave et al., 2023)(Zangabad et al., 2018). They can also be engineered to release encapsulated drugs at specific sites by sensitizing the bilayer membrane to stimuli such as light exposure, oxidation, enzymatic degradation, heat, or radiation (Lee et al., 2017) (Antoniou et al., 2021). The

DNA fingerprinting envisages a very significant molecular methodology employed for identification and characterization of wheat varieties and germplasm. It is of utmost importance in varietal authentication, rights protection of breeders, and analysis of genetic diversity. Currently employed molecular markers like SSRs, SNPs, and DArT are applied extensively for wheat fingerprinting. Such markers precisely differentiate closely related varieties and aid in breeding programs (Babu et al., 2020; Kiss et al., 2021).
The current standing of wheat DNA fingerprinting shows a trend toward high-throughput genotyping and genomic selection strategies to accelerate crop improvement. Future prospects would entail the integration of advanced sequencing technologies such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and machine learning for genetic analysis. These technologies will ease wheat breeding and dramatically contribute to food security and climate-resilient agriculture. Expanding the global DNA fingerprinting database would further enhance global wheat germplasm conservation and utilization (Sandhu et al., 2021; Ahmadi et al., 2020). Wheat (Triticum spp.) is one of the major staple crops of the world, supporting the sustenance of over one-third of the total world population. It is the main source of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, and other important micronutrients, making it very important for human nutrition. Wheat is cultivated mainly in all types of agro-climatic zones, with major producers being China, India, Russia, United States, and the European Union.
Wheat is highly valuable not only in terms of food security, but also economically with millions of farmers involved in its production and trading worldwide. Wheat is an important raw material for many food products, such as bread, pasta, and baked goods. Wheat production faces challenges from climate change, pests, and emerging pathogens. Therefore, continuous research on wheat, genetic improvement for desirable traits, and sustainable agricultural practices are needed to enhance yield, resilience, and in turn global food security. Genetic diversity in wheat is pertinent for fulfilling food security at the global level and for the success of breeding programs, apart from giving diverse traits for resistance against pests, diseases, and environmental stresses like droughts

1. Introduction
Soils stand out as an intricate and diverse ecosystem on our planet. Their significance extends beyond supplying 98.8% of the world’s food, encompassing a wide array of essential services such as carbon storage, regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, flood prevention, and offering support to burgeoning urban populations. However, it is crucial to recognize that soil is a finite natural resource. The unprecedented growth of the human population, escalating from 250 million in the year 1000 to 6.1 billion in 2000, with projections reaching 9.8 billion by 2050, along with the intensified practices of agricultural production, is exerting immense pressure on the sustainability of soils.
For long-term sustenance the concept of ‘Soil quality’ was propagated around three decades back from now in the United States of America, and further expanded to the scientists of European and Asian countries. Soil health and soil quality are two interweaving term that signifies the potentiality or capacity of soil towards mankind. These two words complement each other in such a way that one term automatically comes with another to determine both aspects i.e. agricultural sustainability and environmental quality in terms of plant, animal and human health (Haberern, 1992; Doran, 2002). Idowu et al. (2007) remarked that the term “soil quality” is more favoured by scientists, whereas “soil health” is a term favoured by farmers as it connotes a holistic approach to soil management. The inception and application of soil quality term was officially approved by Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). They defined soil quality as “The capacity of a specific kind of soil to function within natural or managed ecosystem boundaries, to sustain biological productivity, maintain environmental quality, and promote plant and animal health” as illustrated by Karlen et al. (1997). It is a complex composition of certain properties associated with physical (texture, bulk density, water holding capacity, infiltration capacity etc.), chemical (pH, EC, organic carbon, extractable macronutrient and micronutrient etc.) and biological (microbial activity and related parameters) conditions of soil (Prabha et al., 2020). There are primarily two key methodologies for assessing soil quality: the descriptive approach, which focuses on characterizing various aspects or attributes of soil quality, and the Indicative approach, which aims to identify the ability or capacity of an attribute in a desired manner. The comprehensive process of developing a soil quality index is guided by the 3-Is framework: the Identification of indicators, Interpretation, and Integration of selected soil quality indicators. It is important to note that the specific set of indicators utilized can vary between different soils, diverse agroecosystems, and from one crop to another. Additionally, climatic conditions and other abiotic factors may also significantly influence the assessment of soil quality.
The USDA has categorized soil quality indicators into four primary groups: visual, physical, chemical, and biological indicators. However, in the current context, the dominant indicators are physical, chemical, and biological. For a systematic assessment of soil quality, it is crucial to collect individual parameters and integrate them meaningfully. Consequently, integrated soil quality indicators

Ecosystem Services (ES) are actually the benefits human beings derive from their interaction with nature (Reyers et al., 2013; Ernstson, 2013). Around 400 BC, Plato observed how important service provided to Attica by the forests and subsequent loss of forests lead to drying spring and soil erosion (Mooney and Ehrlich, 1997). Thus, the work of Plato highlights that how the people were even then aware of the critical services provided by nature much before the industrial revolution (Rapidel et al., 2011). These ES are categorised into mainly provisioning, supporting, regulating and cultural services as per the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MEA, 2005). In fact, the increasing population warrants more and more set of ES (Biggs et al., 2015). A combination of factors responsible for delivery of ES like geology, climate, ecosystem, management scenarios, society, techniques, skills etc. that led to ES in an agricultural ecosystem (Kroll et al., 2012; Swinton et al., 2007). The ordinary nature largely comprised of agricultural lands (i.e., intensive crops, species poor, artificial pasture) that covers around 37.4% of total Earths’ land surface (FAOSTAT, 2016; Leff et al., 2004). Converting large tract of pristine lands into agricultural land and other competing uses considered to be one of the main reasons for biodiversity loss and land degradation (Tilman et al., 2001). Thus, meeting the challenge of working with limited arable land to feed our population in an eco-friendly manner requires our proper understanding of processes/mechanisms involved in nutrient availability/dynamics including fixation/ release pattern and refining the best management practices (Kumar et al., 2022a). The production of food has been targeted at the cost of other ES like supporting, cultural and non-marketable provisioning services (Muller et al., 2016; Foley et al., 2005; MEA, 2005). There is complex interaction between ecosystem and societal changes in an agricultural landscape. One is intermittently connected to other. Thus, it requires thorough understanding of the processes and biophysical factors that affect ES research, in particular and social-ecosystem, in general (Reed
et al., 2013; Carpenter et al., 2006; Plieninger et al., 2013). The ES that contribute to the agricultural production are mostly linked to aspect of soil fertility, biological control as well as pollination (Bommarco et al., 2013; Duru et al., 2015).

1. Introduction
Fish and fisheries remains to be an important sector for Indian economy providing food, nutrition as well as employment to a large share of the population. Initiating with a production of merely 7.7 lakh ton of fishes in 1951-52, the country was on its way of increasing the production steadily and has now attained the phenomenal success of producing 162.5 lakh ton during 2021-22. Of this total amount, 41.3 lakh ton has been obtained from marine fisheries and 121.2 lakh ton from inland resources (Anon, 2022). For the inland fisheries production, the contribution of fish culture sector was much lower than that from capture fisheries for several decades during the initial phases. However, the production of culture fisheries maintained a consistently increasing trend and has now surpassed in magnitude the production from capture fisheries sector (Fig.1). With the potential areas for fish culture being gradually used up for different purposes, maintaining such high production rates in coming days will be possible only through optimum management of various factors which govern the productivity of the ponds. Among such factors, one important aspect is nourishing the quality of pond soil and water.

1.1 Weather Forecasting
Farmers have always been at the mercy of the weather, and accurate forecasting has become an essential tool for their decision-making process. Weather forecasts play a critical role in supporting farmers’ decision-making processes, from crop planning and management to harvest planning and economic decision-making. Crop planning and management is one of the key areas where weather forecasts are crucial. Farmers use weather forecasts to determine the best time to plant seeds, taking into account temperature, moisture, and sunlight requirements. This enables them to choose crops that are suitable for the predicted weather conditions. Additionally, forecasts help farmers optimize irrigation, reducing water waste and ensuring crops receive adequate moisture (Fig.1.1).
Weather forecasts also help farmers mitigate weather-related risks. Extreme weather events like floods, droughts, heat waves, and storms can have devastating effects on crops. Accurate forecasts enable farmers to prepare for and respond to these events, reducing crop damage and loss. For instance, forecasts help farmers take measures to protect crops from frost and freeze damage, which can be catastrophic for certain crops.

They did this by genetically altering these species’ components, which entailed both conscious and unconscious selection as well as differential reproduction of variants (Allard, 1999). A relatively small number of plant species have evolved over many years of trial and error to become the backbone of agriculture and, consequently, the world’s food supply (Mackay, 2001). This method of domestication includes the identification of specific valuable wild species along with a system of selection that resulted in alterations in the quality and quantity of cultivated crops.The modifications brought about by domestication involved altered organ size and shape, loss of many survival traits, such as bitter or toxic substances, the disintegration of seeds in grains protective structures, such as spines and thorns, seed dormancy, and change in life span increased for crops grown for roots or tubers and decreased for crops grown for seed or fruit. The domestication process followed mostly by mass selection (selection by bulking preferred kinds) is a potent method for facilitating quick changes while preserving genetic variability in the population (Okporie and Obi 2002).
Populations can exist in constantly changing surroundings due to genetic variation. More variation increases the likelihood that certain individuals in a group will have allele variants that are appropriate for the environment. Those individuals have a higher chance of survival to have offspring which carry that allele. Because of their success, the population will endure for additional generations. Selecting the best parents to utilize in artificial crosses is one of the key concerns for plant breeders since it encourages the expression of the largest genetic variability and the production of superior recombinant genotypes. The objective of plant breeding is to simultaneously improve all the desired traits. This task is complicated by correlations between various traits, which may result from pleiotropic genes, physical chromosomal links between genes, or population genetic structure. Choosing one feature will alter associated qualities, sometimes in a positive or in a negative way. As a result, selection may result in unexpected modifications, provided they fall within the typical range of variations seen in the crop and are therefore thought to be useful to consumers or the environment. Breeding practices in the 20th century improved a variety of genetic techniques, including methods for identifying and preserving more genetic diversity, creating variable populations for selection, and testing how to differentiate between the effects of genes and the environment. Naturally self-pollinating plants like soybeans or tomatoes, naturally cross-pollinated plants like maize, and plants whose vegetative propagation (typically cross-pollinated) allowed the direct fixing of improved types, all required different precise steps in the production process (Ubi, 2013).

Introduction
The genetic diversity of crops has been subjected to considerable humandriven selection throughout time, in particular, is often limited by conventional plant breeding techniques. Under these conditions, crops with low yields and a high risk of disease and pest infestation may be produced. Thus, there’s a need to introduce a technique where solutions to all the problems can be addressed. CIS breeding opens us a wider range of opportunities for improving crops by enabling the deliberate incorporation of natural genetic differences from closely related plants. The word “CIS” in CIS breeding means “on the same side/same kingdom”. CIS breeding is an advanced method for genetic improvement in which genes from closely related plants are inserted into the desired crop. This method creates crop varieties that are greatly improved in terms of growth capacity, yield potential and pest and disease resistance. CIS breeding is a pioneering technology designed to integrate novel traits into established crop varieties without the introduction of foreign genetic material. Utilizing the similar gene combinations and the plant’s intrinsic genetic systems, it is a natural form of genetic improvement that improves traits including yield, drought resistance, disease resistance and nutritional qualities (Anjanppa and Gruissem, 2021). Comparing to conventional breeding where gene transfer can occur through random cross- breeding or mutagenesis and risk of unintended effects are high, in CIS breeding, one or few genes are transferred from related species as well as risk of unintended effects are also low. Some countries, regulate it as conventional breeding and other regulate it as GMO breeding.

Introduction
Current state of global warming and climate change affecting crops through altered pest and disease incidence patterns, changes in temperature and CO2 levels which adversely affected the crop production (Habib-ur-Rahman et al. 2022). This threat is particularly pronounced in food-insecure regions, especially in Asian countries. Climate change not only jeopardizes crop and livestock health but also impacts soil and water resources and livelihood of rural communities. Furthermore, it contributes to food insecurity by increasing prices and reducing overall food production. The complexity of these effects highlights the need for modern agricultural techniques to mitigate risks and ensure global food security (Habib-ur-Rahman et al. 2018).
Crop improvement, an integral facet of agricultural development, remains a cornerstone in addressing the burgeoning global food demands. Conventional plant breeding methods have played a pivotal role in developing improved crop varieties that exhibit enhanced quality, higher yields and resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses. However, plant breeding methods involving continuous selection and intermating among closely related individuals can result in a reduction of genetic diversity within a cultivated crop species. The narrow genetic base makes crops more vulnerable to emerging threats, such as new pests or diseases and limits their ability to cope with changing climatic conditions. In India, the Green Revolution along with substantial plant breeding activities, led to a significant increase in crop yields, particularly in staple crops like wheat, rice and maize. However, one of the major consequences of green revolution is the development of narrow genetic base in cultivated crop species (Begna 2021).
Moreover, the reliance on a narrow genetic base, a consequence of crossing only two parents, curtails the exploration of broader genetic diversity. This limitation restricts the potential for effectively combining and expressing desired traits in the resulting crop varieties. Most of conventional plant breeding techniques were primarily focused on monogenic traits, while many agronomically important traits are quantitative in nature, controlled by polygenes, and influenced by the environment. This poses challenges for breeders relying only on phenotypic selection. Notably, traits influenced by multiple genes, such as resistance to diseases or tolerance to environmental stresses, are particularly challenging to manipulate using traditional breeding methods.
Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) are genomic regions that influence polygenic traits, first described by Geldermann (1975). Identifying QTLs associated with improving yield and quality traits is pivotal for catalysing a new Green Revolution (Arrones et al. 2020; Pradhan et al. 2015). Marker-assisted selection (MAS), introgression breeding and QTL pyramiding offer efficient avenues for developing improved cultivars. However, identifying QTLs associated with quantitative traits remains a challenge for plant breeders (Arrones et al. 2020). The basic requirement for the detection of QTLs involves appropriate mapping population, marker systems, phenotyping methods and suitable experimental designs (Arrones et al. 2020; Collard et al. 2005)

Mendel’s 3 Laws (Segregation, Independent Assortment, Dominance).In the 1860s, an Austrian monk named Gregor Mendel introduced a new theory of inheritance based on his experimental work with pea plants.Mendel believed that heredity is the result of discrete units of inheritance, and every single unit (or gene) was independent in its actions in an individual’s genome.According to this Mendelian concept, the inheritance of a trait depended on the passingon of these units.For any given trait, an individual inherits one gene from each parent so that the individual has a pairing of two genes. We now understand the alternate forms of these units as ‘alleles’.If the two alleles that form the pair for a trait are identical, then the individual is said to be homozygous and if the two genes are different, then the individual is heterozygous for the trait.The breeding experiments of the monk in the mid-1800s laid the groundwork for the science of genetics.He studied peas plant for 7 years and published his results in 1866 which was ignored until 1900 when three separate botanists, who also were theorizing about heredity in plants, independently cited the work.In appreciation of his work he was considered as the “Father of Genetics”. A new stream of genetics was established after his name as Mendelian genetics which involves the study of heredity of both qualitative (monogenic) and quantitative (polygenic) traits and the influence of environment on their expressions.Mendelian inheritance while is a type of biological inheritance that follows the laws originally proposed by Gregor Mendel in 1865 and 1866 and re-discovered in 1900.
Mendel carried out breeding experiments in his monastery’s garden to test inheritance patterns. He selectively cross-bred common pea plants (Pisum sativum) with selected traits over several generations. After crossing two plants which differed in a single trait (tall stems vs. short stems, round peas vs. wrinkled peas, purple flowers vs. white flowers, etc), Mendel discovered that the next generation, the “F1” (first filial generation), was comprised entirely of individuals exhibiting only one of the traits. However, when this generation was interbred, its offspring, the “F2” (second filial generation), showed a 3:1 ratio- three individuals had the same trait as one parent and one individual had the other parent’s trait.

Mutation
Definition: “Mutation is the change in our DNA base pair sequence due to various environmental factors such as UV light, or mistakes during DNA replication.”
What Are Mutations?
The DNA sequence is specific to each organism. It can sometimes undergo changes in its base-pairs sequence. It is termed as a mutation. A mutation may lead to changes in proteins translated by the DNA. Usually, the cells can recognize any damage caused by mutation and repair it before it becomes permanent.
A mutation is a sudden, heritable modification in an organism’s traits. The term “mutant” refers to a person who exhibits these heritable alterations. Mutations usually produce recessive genes.

Animal husbandry programmes have been run through the State schemes. Each State has to evolve its own breeding policy deciding on choice of breed, cross breeding strategy, optional mixture of animals of different breeds required, breeding goals in terms of expected genetic progress to be achieved, specific breeding programmes and the control measures that should be adopted to achieve the desired genetic gains in the population.
General parameters in the breeding policy formulated by various States are
• Indigenous milch breeds such as Shaiwal, Red Sindhi and Gir, should be selectively developed for dairy traits in their native tracts.
• Indigenous dualpurpose breeds such as Hariana, Tharparkar, Rathi, Kankrej, Gaolao, Ongole Deoni etc. should be developed selectively in their native tracts for dairy and draft traits.
• Indigenous draft breeds like Kangayam, Hallikar, Khillari, Amrit Mahal etc. should be developed selectively for draft traits in their native tract.
• Non-descript cattle will be bred with exotic semen to produce cross breed with Holstein Friesian or jersey and maintaing 50% exotic impenitence. In some States Red Sindhi, Tharparkar and Hariana have also been used upgrading non-descript cattle.
• Development of indigenous breeds
• To develop indigenous breeds Government of India has initiated three schemes namely National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding, Central Herd registration scheme, Central Cattle Breeding Farms.
• Central Herd Registration Scheme
• For identification and location of superior germplasms of cattle and buffaloes, propagation of superior genetic stock, regulating sale and purchase, help in formation of breeders societies and to meet requirement of indigenous bulls in the different parts of the country. Government of India

Water, unique in its ability to exist in all three states at Earth’s temperatures, undergoes phase changes that are fundamental to the formation of clouds, precipitation, and atmospheric stability. Understanding the sources of atmospheric moisture, the ways it is measured and expressed, and its influence on atmospheric processes is essential for comprehending a wide range of meteorological phenomena (Fig. 4.1). We will explore concepts such as evaporation, condensation, humidity indices, and the role of moisture in energy transfer within the Earthatmosphere system. Join us as we unravel the dynamics of this vital component of our atmospheric environment

Numerous research teams have recognized the significance of solid support materials for the creation of environmentally acceptable nano catalysts with high catalytic activity in light of the infinite advantages of MNPs (Sharma, R. K. et al., 2016; Gawande, M. B. et al., 2013; Deng, J. et al., 2011; Nasrollahzadeh, M. et al., 2015; Hudson, R. et al., 2014; Payra, S. et al., 2017; Chng, L. L. et al., 2013; Parandhaman, T. et al., 2017; Zhang, F. et al., 2014; Pourjavadi, A. et al., 2012). Heterogeneous catalysts in organic chemistry are solid catalysts that, while remaining in a distinct phase (usually solid) from the reactants (generally liquids or gasses), promote chemical reactions without being consumed in the process. These catalysts, which have multiple benefits such as ease of separation, recyclability, and selective reactivity, are essential in a variety of industrial processes and laboratory reactions (Lattuada, M. et al., 2007; Jiang, K. et al., 2011). The standard formula for ferrite nanoparticles is MFe2O4, where M is usually divalent metal ion like copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), or nickel (Ni), and iron (Fe) is the common metal (Kazemi, M. et al., 2018). These nanoparticles work very well as heterogeneous catalysts in a variety of chemical reactions because of their special magnetic and electrical characteristics.Because of its special qualities as a catalyst in a variety of processes, copper ferrite (CuFeO4), a mixed-metal oxide, has drawn interest in organic chemistry (Kharisov, B. I. et al., 2019; Zhu, J. et al., 2014; Vannucci, A. K. et al., 2012). It is a spinel-type ferrite that can catalyse a variety of organic transformations because it combines iron and copper in a stable, highly active structure. With benefits including high stability, reusability, and low toxicity, these catalysts are frequently employed in processes like oxidation, coupling, and reduction (Taghavi Fardood, S. et al., 2018). The Figure 1 represents schematic diagram of a reaction where the ferrite nanoparticles as catalyst have been recovered with the aid of an external magnet after the formation of reaction product.

Agriculture has long been intertwined with weather, where accurate forecasts are essential for planning everything from planting schedules to irrigation management, harvesting, and market timing. Over the decades, statistical methods have evolved from simple empirical models to sophisticated tools that integrate vast amounts of historical data, real-time observations, and remote sensing information (Fig. 4.1).
This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of the statistical techniques that underpin modern agricultural forecasting. In doing so, it examines their applications across various agricultural domains—including staple crops, fisheries, livestock, and horticulture/plantation systems—while also addressing the challenges and uncertainties inherent in weather prediction. Furthermore, the chapter discusses how the rise of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping traditional approaches, particularly in the context of food production and agricultural resilience.
In the following sections, we explore
• Statistical Techniques: An overview of regression models, time-series analysis, and probabilistic methods used in weather forecasting.
• Applications in Agriculture: Tailoring forecasting models for crops, fisheries, livestock, and horticultural/plantation systems.

This chapter integrates case studies, scientific examples, and policy perspectives to illustrate how AI and ML can transform agricultural weather intelligence. The discussion spans from advanced predictive models in developed nations to emerging applications in technology-limited regions, while also addressing the urgent need for resilient crisis management systems in the face of natural and human-caused conditions. Advanced scientific techniques can not only optimize food production and resource management but also play a critical role in recovery efforts during times of crisis. Agriculture is intrinsically linked to the natural world—a domain defined by fluctuating weather patterns, seasonal shifts, and unpredictable environmental factors. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are revolutionizing how we analyze and predict weather patterns, and their applications in agriculture are far-reaching (Fig. 5.1). From forecasting crop yields and fishery conditions to managing plantations and monitoring livestock health, these technologies are creating a paradigm shift in agricultural weather intelligence. Scientific organizations worldwide are leveraging AI and ML to refine predictive models, enable multi-variate analysis, and provide advanced warning systems for extreme events such as droughts, tsunamis, earthquakes, and even crises caused by human-made conflicts. Emerging nations with rapidly growing technological capabilities stand to benefit immensely from these innovations, tailoring solutions to local challenges while contributing to global food security and crisis resilience.

The content presented in this chapter is exploratory and reflects emerging trends in integrating weather intelligence with decision support systems. The term “weather intelligence” is introduced as a framework, with ongoing research expected to further refine and expand upon these ideas as technologies evolve. In an era where climate variability and extreme weather events increasingly threaten global food systems, the integration of advanced decision support systems (DSS) with what we are now calling weather intelligence has emerged as a transformative paradigm. This chapter explores how food production— encompassing agriculture, fisheries, and animal husbandry—can harness integrated weather intelligence to inform real-time crisis management, strategic planning, and risk mitigation. The discussion is exploratory in many respects, as the concept of weather intelligence represents an innovative framework that challenges traditional forecasting methods and decision support tools (Fig. 9.1). Drawing on multidisciplinary research and practical case studies, we examine the building blocks of decision support systems tailored to food production. We then discuss the integration of weather intelligence into crisis response and strategic planning, highlighting both established risk mitigation approaches and emerging tools designed to anticipate and respond to extreme weather events. By contextualizing these developments within the broader scope of sustainable food production, this chapter offers an in-depth analysis and a forward-looking vision for decision support and response management in a rapidly changing climate.

Introduction 
Polymers are mostly distinguished from metals by their property of inability to conduct electricity. Because of the insulating properties, polymers find advantages for many applications of plastics. However with the discovery of poly sulphur nitride [(SN)x], which acts as super-conductor at low temperature the evolution of conducting polymers began in 1975. After two years the linear conjugated organic polymer polyacetylene treated with gaseous bromine or Iodine found to have metallic properties. Some examples of conducting polymers are polyaniline, polypyrrole and polythiophene etc. Conducting polymers are organic polymer, possesses the magnetic, electronic, electrical properties, mechanical properties, and processibility etc. These properties are most commonly related to the conventional polymer. The transformation of polymer from insulator to conductor is called doping. For example: the effect of conductivity due to the absorption of I2 into polyacetylene is analogous to the effect of doping of arsenic, boron, and phosphorus into silicon to make semiconductor. Doping and undoping can be achieved in conducting polymers by an alternate route of electrochemical oxidation and reduction. Doping includes either the removal of electrons from or addition of electron to the conjugated backbone of conducting polymers. Doping is therefore of two types: Oxidative doping (p-type): In this case, the polymer backbone carries a positive charge due to removal of an electron by ordinary oxidation. Examples of p-doped conductive polymers are polyacetylene, polyaniline, polypyrroles etc. The p-doping causes oxidation of the polymer backbone to form cations. When these cations move along the polymer backbone in an electrical field, the polymer is electrically conductive. Reductive doping (n-type): the polymer backbone acquires negative charge by receiving electrons. Ex: Polyacetylene can be n-doped by alkali metals but these are less explored because they are very much sensitive towards atmospheric air than specific undoped type polymer. According to the principle of electroneutrality, doped conducting polymer needs counter ion to balance the opposite charges in the polymer backbone. These counterions are called dopant. Some common examples of dopants are usually small anions e.g. Cl-, I-, and SO4 2-. However poly-electrolyte like p-toluene sulphonic acid can act as the dopant. The process by which the doped polymer loses its charges and becomes an insulator is called undoping. For a doped conducting polymer with isolated small anions as dopants, undoping is accompanied by the loss of the dopant. Undoping causes the conductive polymer to lose its electrical conductivity and useful optical properties.

For generations, farmers have been the stewards of the land, relying on their intimate knowledge of the natural world to coax crops from the earth and raise livestock. However, the changing climate is redefining the rules of their trade, forcing them to adapt to new and unpredictable conditions. The relationship between farmers and the climate is deeply intertwined. On one hand, farmers have always been attuned to the subtleties of the climate, carefully observing weather patterns, soil moisture levels, and pest populations to make informed decisions about planting, harvesting, and crop management. This traditional knowledge, passed down through generations, has allowed farmers to develop a keen sense of the local climate and its rhythms. On the other hand, farmers are also significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, with agricultural practices such as tillage, fertilization, and livestock production releasing carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere. As the climate continues to change, farmers are finding themselves at the forefront of climate awareness. Rising temperatures are altering growing seasons, shifting the distribution of pests and diseases, and changing the patterns of rainfall and drought. This, in turn, affects crop yields, quality, and profitability, making it increasingly challenging for farmers to maintain their livelihoods. The consequences of climate change are far-reaching, from the immediate impacts on farm productivity to the long-term implications for food security, rural development, and ecosystem health. In this context, farmers are not just passive victims of climate change; they are also key players in the global effort to mitigate its effects. By adopting climateresilient agricultural practices, such as agroforestry, conservation tillage, and integrated pest management, farmers can reduce their carbon footprint, improve soil health, and promote biodiversity. Moreover, farmers can serve as powerful advocates for climate policy, using their unique perspective to inform decisionmaking at the local, national, and international levels. This chapter explores the complex relationships between farmers, climate awareness, and climate change. By examining the ways in which farmers are experiencing and responding to climate change, we can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. From the nuances of climatesmart agriculture to the role of farmers in shaping climate policy, this chapter

The agricultural sector, which is a cornerstone of many economies, especially in developing countries, faces unprecedented challenges due to rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and increased frequency of extreme weather events. These climatic changes not only affect crop yields and quality but also have broader implications for food security, economic stability, and sustainable development. In this context, the development and dissemination of operational agroclimatological advisories ((OAA) have emerged as a vital strategy for mitigating the impacts of climate variability on agriculture.
5.1. The Imperative for Agroclimatological Advisories
Agroclimatological advisories are specialized services designed to provide farmers, policymakers, and other stakeholders with timely and accurate information on optimal agricultural practices in response to prevailing and forecasted climatic conditions. These advisories are grounded in the integration of climatological data, agricultural research, and local knowledge, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity, reduce risks associated with climate variability, and promote sustainable agricultural practices (Fig. 5.1).
The relevance and necessity of these advisories are underscored by several critical factors:
• Climate Change Impacts: The agricultural sector is both a contributor to and a victim of climate change. Agroclimatological advisories can guide farmers in adopting practices that reduce the vulnerability of their crops to changing climatic conditions.
• Food Security: With the global population projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience is crucial for ensuring food security. Tailored advisories can help farmers make informed decisions that potentially increase yields and reduce losses.
• Economic Stability: Agriculture is a significant source of income and employment in many countries. By minimizing risks associated with climate variability, agroclimatological advisories can contribute to economic stability and poverty reduction.

The intricate balance between the Earth’s atmosphere and its ecosystems has always been a subject of fascination and concern, particularly when it comes to the impact of extreme weather events on agriculture. The delicate balance that sustains life on our planet is often disrupted by the very forces that make our environment dynamic and diverse. Extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, floods, and heatwaves, have become a recurring theme in the narrative of global agriculture, leaving in their wake trails of devastation, economic loss, and food insecurity. Agriculture, the backbone of many economies around the world, is inherently sensitive to weather patterns. The cycle of planting, growth, and harvesting is deeply intertwined with the climate and weather conditions of a region. Any significant deviation from the expected weather patterns can have far-reaching consequences for crop yields, livestock health, and ultimately, the livelihoods of those dependent on farming and related activities. The increasing vulnerability of agricultural systems to climate change, coupled with the need for sustainable and resilient agricultural practices, necessitates a fundamental transformation of agricultural meteorology. To support the development and implementation of climate resilient agriculture (CRA) practices, agricultural meteorology must be reoriented as a super speciality discipline. This requires a comprehensive overhaul of the discipline, including its curriculum, research focus, and practice. The reorientation of agricultural meteorology as a super speciality discipline is essential to provide the necessary expertise and knowledge to support CRA practices. This includes developing and applying cutting-edge technologies, such as precision agriculture, remote sensing, and machine learning, to support agricultural decision-making. However, the current state of agricultural meteorology is not equipped to meet the demands of CRA. The discipline faces several challenges, including a lack of interdisciplinary approaches, inadequate emphasis on practical skills, and limited focus on climate change and sustainability (Fig. 8.1). To address these challenges, essential reforms are necessary to reorient agricultural meteorology as a super speciality discipline. The increasing prices of fast-depleting fossil fuels and their environmental impact have driven the quest for alternative fuels for diesel engines. Because of their higher biomass yield, faster growth rates, and superior photosynthetic efficiency when compared to other energy crops like soybean and rapeseed, microalgae are considered as promising candidates for biofuel production (Mubarak et al., 2015). Numerous species of microalgae have been found to have high lipid contents, making them attractive cell platforms for the synthesis of lipids. Their significance as a backup source of bioenergy in the future is indicated by the ease with which their lipids can be transformed into biodiesel (Ren et al., 2021). Tiny photosynthetic organisms known as microalgae are the ancestors of eukaryotic plants on Earth. These organisms range in size from one to hundred microns and are either unicellular or multicellular (Udayan et al., 2022). Due to the genetic and biochemical diversity of their lineages, algae are able to synthesize a wide range of metabolites, including lipids (Manning, 2022). Glycerolipids are the most prevalent and well-known lipid class in microalgae. Glycerolipids are categorized into two classes based on their functions: storage lipids and structural lipids. Membrane lipids, a type of structural lipid, play a crucial role in forming cell and organelle membranes. They typically consist of two fatty acid groups attached to a glycerol backbone, along with a polar group bound to the glycerol structure (Morales et al., 2021). In contrast, polar lipids have a higher oxygen content and possess charged side groups, enabling them to moderately interact with water. Examples include phospholipids and glycolipids (Manning, 2022). Microalgal lipid metabolism predominantly relies on the de novo fatty acid biosynthesis pathway and the triacylglycerol (TAG) synthesis route (Zhu et al., 2022). Therefore, accurately estimating the composition of the lipid fraction is crucial for determining its potential applications, whether as a raw material for biofuel production or for nutraceutical and/or food purposes (Viegas et al., 2020). The production of biodiesel from microalgae presents a novel approach to generating renewable and sustainable energy. Additionally, different techniques, including lipid extraction and transesterification, are utilized to transform lipid-rich microalgae biomass into biodiesel (Gaurav et al., 2024). Microalgae possess thick-walled cell structures, which restrict the release of their bioactive compounds due to the rigidity of the microalgal matrix. Consequently, selecting suitable pre-treatment and extraction methods is essential for effectively obtaining lipids from microalgae while preserving their bioactivity. Traditional methods for lipid extraction, such as Soxhlet extraction, Folch extraction, and Bligh-Dyer extraction, have been used for a considerable time. While these techniques are generally easy to use and cost-effective, which encourages their adoption, they also have drawbacks, including high consumption of organic solvents, environmental pollution, and extended extraction times that can last several hours. Thus, it is essential to investigate suitable techniques that enhance the extraction rate and lower costs while ensuring the bioactive properties of lipids, enabling better industrial applications of microalgae (Zhou et al., 2022). In recent years, the use of nanotechnology and nanoparticles has emerged as a novel approach for extracting valuable metabolites or bioproducts from microalgae. Nanoparticles (NPs) are materials engineered with at least one dimension measuring less than 100 nanometers (nm). Due to their small size and large surface

Due to the depletion of their raw material supplies, traditional fossil fuel use should be reduced. There is significant hope for biofuel production (Gangl D et al., 2015 ; Seo et al., 2017), and in the past decade, interest in using microalgae has been steadily increasing (Gangl D et al., 2015). The algae group consists of various photosynthetic eukaryotic species that are typically found in both freshwater and marine environments. With an estimated 30,000 to 1 million species, algae range from single-celled cyanobacteria to multicellular forms, each having distinct traits. Microalgae, specifically, grow rapidly and absorb carbon dioxide as they develop (Guiry and M. D., 2012). Many industries have benefited from the utilization of microalgae species for the good of humanity. Food, medications and antibiotics, wastewater treatment, biofuel, biofertilizers, and CO2 fixation are a few of the significant uses for microalgae (Singh et al., 2018 ; Ananthi et al., 2021). Compared to first-generation biofuels, the manufacturing of algae-based biofuel is more advantageous to the environment (Alalwan et al., 2019). Microalgal biofuel production is a greener alternative to first-generation biofuels (Alalwan et al., 2019). It can be cultivated in less ideal locations, such as the ocean or non-arable land, and doesn’t require fertile soil, which helps prevent rivalry with food crops for freshwater and farmland (Winckelmann et al., 2015; Correa et al., 2020). Microalgal production systems can help treat wastewater or convert CO2 into oxygen without interfering with the food supply (Onyeaka et al., 2021; Prasad et al., 2021). Nanotechnology and nanomaterials are becoming increasingly popular across many fields for their useful properties, with global research exploring their role in biodiesel production and processing. To speed up the development of biodiesel production, advanced nanotechnology is being emphasized to achieve higher yields at lower costs. Microalgae are a promising source for biodiesel production, and various nanoparticles can significantly boost the efficiency of harvesting them. Reusing nanomaterials and combining cell harvesting, disruption, and extraction processes also help reduce costs. Moreover, different nanocatalysts can enhance the efficiency of biodiesel conversion (Verma and Kuila, 2020). Currently available techniques for microalgal harvesting include chemical, mechanical, biological, and electrical ones to some extent. Harvesting microalgal biomass is most often done by mechanical means since they are the most dependable (Grima et al., 2003 ; Christenson et al., 2011). But, in order to increase productivity and reduce operating and maintenance expenses, these procedures are frequently followed by biological or chemical flocculation phases. For maximum separation efficiency and minimum cost, two or more of these techniques are frequently used. For instance, processing costs can be significantly decreased by combining centrifugation and flocculation-sedimentation (Schlesinger et al., 2012). Novel approaches like biological treatments have the potential to further lower operating expenses.

However, because fossil fuels play such a vital part in the global energy system, measures to reduce GHG emissions from fossil fuels must be found. Researchers and scientists are examining the characteristics of materials at the nanoscale level to identify compounds that might boost the efficiency of the energy sources we now use. The physical properties of several materials (such as strength, heat conductivity, and reflectance) alter at the nanoscale in comparison to their bulk properties. When compared to their bulk properties, several materials have distinct physical properties at the nanoscale (such as strength, electrical and thermal conductivity, and reflectance). several materials on a nanoscale. Additionally, materials with nanostructures are more suited for material-to-material interactions due to their higher surface to unit weight volume ratio. This is a useful characteristic as many chemical and electrical reactions take place at surfaces and are greatly impacted by the chemical composition of the reactant and the surface’s structure. The goal of nanotechnology research in the fossil fuel industry is to create novel catalysts that will improve the energy efficiency of the fossil fuel breakdown process. Given that heavy crude oil contains sulphur. The transformation of coal into liquid fuels for use in transportation requires the employment of several kinds of catalysts. Furthermore, because of their structure and the presence of electrons in their outer orbitals, which increases the potential for chemical reactions, the majority of typical catalysts used in cars today rely on valuable metals like platinum. Concerns about the supply of precious metals are raised by the industrialised world’s transport networks’ explosive expansion. Finding more affordable and readily available substitutes is imperative given the scarcity and high cost of these materials, and this will be emphasised in the researchers’ upcoming work. Additionally, because of their unique qualities that relate to the phenomena of corrosion resistance or their exceptionally strong qualities that are advantageous in turbomachinery components, nanomaterials are also helpful in power systems (1) . The application of nanotechnology in the production of resistant ceramics for use as insulators in gearbox lines results in smooth coatings that reduce the likelihood of fouling in cooling water intakes. Additionally, nanotechnology can improve a material’s conductivity and produce a superconductor at ambient temperature rather than a superconducting characteristic at very high temperatures. Renewable energy sources—also known as “green energy”—such as solar, wind, and ocean energy— allow countries to reduce their reliance on petroleum and address environmental problems related to the use of fossil fuels. In these technologies, nanotechnology is also employed. Mao and Chen concentrated their research efforts on developing nanotechnologies for a select group of renewable energy sources, including fuel cells, solar cells, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen generation. This research aims to provide a comprehensive comparative analysis of nanotechnology’s application to the development of sustainable energy systems, including nanomaterials, nanofluids, and nanostructures.

Risk management is an important part of patient safety programs in developed countries. An important aspect of quality improvement in laboratories is risk management, which requires an evaluation of every testing method. All the working laboratories must perform this repeated preventive means at least once a year. The safety of laboratory workers, the caliber of results, and environmental preservation all depend on risk management in good laboratory practices (GLP). These are a few GLP risk management techniques. GLP- The Concept In accordance with excellent laboratory practice, risk management should be implemented by evaluating every laboratory procedure to guarantee the safety of both patients and staff. When a GLP facility implements a risk-based inspection procedure, risk assessments will be documented. The Directorate of Extension (DoE) at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) is a key player in this process, liaising with state development departments to drive technology dissemination in the agriculture and allied sectors. The DoE collaborates closely with development departments of agri and allied areas in the State, acting as a vital link to ensure that agricultural advancements reach the grassroots level. The Directorate also integrates institutional mechanisms to support this technology transfer. Through a network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and several institutional mechanisms, the Directorate integrates new agricultural technologies into mainstream practices, focusing on both skill development and sustainable development strategies. It conducts workshops, seminars, and training programs focused on enhancing the skills of extension workers, farmers, and other stakeholders. The focus is not just on disseminating new technologies but also on building long-term capacity through skill development. This ensures that the stakeholders are well-equipped to implement the innovations in a way that promotes efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. In essence, the DoE at KAU is a driving force in modernizing agriculture in Kerala. Through its structured efforts in technology transfer, skill enhancement, and the promotion of sustainable practices, it enables the agricultural sector to keep pace with scientific advancements while ensuring that the benefits are accessible and applicable at the field level.

The Directorate of Extension is crucial in bridging the gap between agricultural research and field-level application through various innovative initiatives. Key interventions include the popularization of agricultural technologies, primarily through farm-based production programs, Block Level Agricultural Knowledge Centres (BLAKC), and the Mukhamukham (face-to-face) Agro Clinic. The Directorate also focuses on capacity-building programs, entrepreneurship development, and ICT-enabled technology dissemination. Additionally, the Directorate supports vulnerable sections of society, develops Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and implements state-funded development projects, contributing to the holistic growth of Kerala’s agricultural sector.

University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad is one of the premier agriculture Universities in India has made its remarkable journey in the field of Teaching/ Research / Extension since its inception, UAS, Dharwad has got six Krishi Vigyan Kendras sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Which have adopted various outreach methodologies for the farming community. Apart from conventional methods of technology transfer i.e., technologies in pipeline (farm trails) conducted in farmers fields for their acceptance, front line demonstration, on farm testing, PRA, diagnostic field visits etc. KVKs have employed various techniques making use of ICT which have proved to be effective in enhancing the productivity of farms (Medhi et al., 2017), reaching farmers quickly and effectively. The present paper is a compilation of innovative methodologies adopted by KVKs under UAS Dharwad during last five years. As it is mandate for all the KVKs to prepare action plan before the onset of every year during March-April, vigorous exercises are done by KVKs to prioritize the problems faced by farmers in the particular district. These problems are planned to tackle the location specific technologies developed in that zone. If the technologies under FLD banner are not available in particular technologies developed elsewhere in NARS are borrowed and tested for both its sustainability under that agro-ecological system. During this process of prioritizing the problems, implementation and monitoring, KVK adopt various methods given as discussed below.

Introduction 
The agriculture scenario has evolved considerably over the years. In the present context, consumers need diverse, safe and nutritious food which calls for a major reorganisation of the agricultural value chains to support transformation from the traditional production-oriented supply chains to demand-based approaches. Trade liberalization has further intensified competition by exposing farmers to both domestic and international markets, compelling them to meet elevated standards in terms of product quality and pricing. Therefore, the primary focus should be on enhancing technical expertise, managerial capabilities and access to timely information to enable smallholder farmers not only to strengthen their livelihoods but also enhance their marketing skills amid the fast-evolving global economic landscape. Access to true information is equally essential for addressing growing challenges related to natural resource degradation and climate change. Extension in Indian context, play a vital role in bridging the knowledge gap between research institutions and farmers by providing a range of advisory amenities and facilitate expertise application, transmission and management in the farmer’s fields. Perhaps, agricultural extension is the only service at the ground-level that can provide essential knowledge, guidance, information as well as assistance to the farmers and the stakeholders. There has been extensive range of transformation and inventiveness in agricultural extension services in India; however, the exposure and access to information which were disseminated to marginal and underprivileged farmers are uneven and patchy. Likewise, in real situation a huge gap existed between the technology developed/released and the technology disseminated/adopted. A study by NSSO (National Sample Survey Organisation), 2014, highlighted that the almost 59 per cent of the farm families refrained from any assistance from either government or private extension services. In the country, 40.6 per cent households received extension assistance while, only 11 per cent of the services came from physical government machineries. At present hardly onethird of the technology developed at the research organizations has reached the farming community and the statistics of adoption/application of such technology at field level is even less than that. Practical application of many of our recommended agricultural technologies in the field is very much difficult either because of the complex nature of the technology or inputs so prescribed are not readily available in nearby areas. Moreover, most of the extension machineries tend to work in isolation from each other. The discovery of antibiotics—one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of the 20th century—began when Sir Alexander Fleming noticed that the fungus Penicillium notatum inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus spp. This finding sparked a search for similar properties in other fungi and bacteria. From 1940 to 1960, known as the ‘Golden Era of Antibiotic Discovery’, most modern antibiotics such as streptomycin, tetracycline, rifampicin, and nalidixic acid were identified through natural product screening (Clardy et al., 2006; Lewis, 2013). However, the declaration that “it is time to close the book on infectious diseases and declare the war against pestilence won” proved to be premature (Davies & Davies, 2010). It was not a final victory but a fragile truce. In the ongoing war between humans and microbes—nature’s own creations—our successes are brief, and the microbial battleground keeps shifting. Bacteria’s genetic adaptability, coupled with human complacency, led to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), where microbes gradually evolved resistance to almost all known antibiotics (Ventola, 2015). Resistance appeared soon after antibiotics entered clinical use, but the emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria marked major setbacks (Prestinaci et al., 2015; WHO, 2023). AMR gained global attention with the rise of pan-drug-resistant strains—resistant to all antibiotic classes—seen in Klebsiella (India), Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas (China, Italy, Greece), and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). Aquaculture is one of the sunrise sectors contributing a significant quantity to the global supply of fish for human consumption. Fish is a superior source of highquality animal protein and highly digestible energy. Disease problems in farmed fishes are one of the main barriers, resulting in significant financial losses up to a tune of US$2.48 B, 14.95% of the annual aquaculture production value in Indian aquaculture. In the aquatic environment, bacteria are quite prevalent and the majority of bacterial pathogens are found in the water’s natural flora. They only spread illness when poor husbandry practices, inadequate nutrition, and unfavourable environmental circumstances contribute to fish stress. Pathogenic bacteria, including Aeromonas spp, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Clostridium botulinum, Plesiomonas shigelloides, and Listeria monocytogenes, can be either naturally present in fish or introduced to them during handling, processing, and storage. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Indian aquaculture presents a multifaceted and growing challenge at the intersection of public health, environmental sustainability, and food security. As aquaculture expands to meet rising global demands for protein, the sector has increasingly relied on antimicrobials to prevent and treat bacterial infections. However, due to some indiscriminate and unregulated use of these agents as well as the householdsewage, hospital effluents, contamination from agricultural wastes andinadequately treated urban waters that enter the aquaculture through drains and rivers,creates strong selective pressure and accelerate the development and dissemination of resistant pathogens in aquatic environments posing a serious threat not only to farmed fish but also to human health through environmental contamination and the broader food chain. Resistant bacteria and resistance genes can spread through water systems, biofilms, and aquaculture products, creating reservoirs that contribute to the broader One Health AMR crisis. Food borne pathogens (Aeromonas spp., Vibrio spp., and Streptococcus spp.) from aquatic animals were found resistant to antimicrobial agents that are relevant for therapeutic usage in human clinical settings. E. coliwas found to be resistant as a sign of possible human and terrestrial animal effects. Distinguishing resistance that has been selected in different sectors is extremely difficult and caution is needed while trying to attribute the source of antibiotic resistance in bacteria in the aquatic environment. Understanding the drivers, mechanisms, and impacts of AMR in aquaculture is essential for developing effective mitigation strategies and sustainable management practices that safeguard both aquatic and human health.

Introduction
The discovery of antibiotics in the early 20th century revolutionized medicine, agriculture, and public health. These compounds, capable of inhibiting or destroying pathogenic bacteria, not only saved millions of human lives but also transformed animal production systems by reducing morbidity and mortality, improving growth rates, and ensuring food security (Phillips et al., 2004). The application of antibiotics in food animals,whether for therapeutic, prophylactic, or growth-promoting purposes,has been instrumental in increasing global meat, milk, egg, and fish production, thus addressing the nutritional needs of a growing population (Darwish et al., 2013; Chen et al., 2019). However, the indiscriminate and excessive use of antibiotics in animal agriculture has created unintended consequences, most notably the presence of antibiotic residues in foods of animal origin and the global acceleration of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) (Bacanli & Basaran, 2019; Shahid et al., 2021). Antibiotic residues in food is the trace amounts of active compounds or its metabolites that remain in edible animal tissues, milk, eggs, and aquaculture products causes significant concerns for both consumer safety and public health. Even when below the maximum residue limits (MRLs) established by regulatory authorities, prolonged exposure may lead to allergic reactions, disruption of the gut microbiome, reproductive and developmental toxicity, mutagenicity, nephropathy, and in certain cases carcinogenicity (Ngangom et al., 2019; WHO, 2020). Furthermore, residues contribute to the selection pressure that drives the emergence and dissemination of resistant bacterial strains in humans, animals, and the environment (FAO, 2019; O’Neill, 2016). The One Health framework highlights these interconnected pathways, recognizing food as a critical link between veterinary antibiotic use and human AMR burden (Robinson et al., 2016). Globally, approximately 73% of antibiotics are consumed in food animal production, with projections estimating a further 11–67% increase by 2030,largely by intensification of livestock and aquaculture in developing economies (Van Boeckel et al., 2015; Tiseo et al., 2020). While industrialized nations have implemented bans on antibiotic growth promoters and introduced robust surveillance programs, most low- and-middle-income countries still facing challenges (Antibiotics, 2021; WHO, 2019). Consequently, foods containing antibiotic residues frequently enter local and international markets, undermining food safety standards and exacerbating AMR risks (Darwish et al., 2013; Antibiotics, 2021). Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a major global public health crisis, directly causing an estimated 1.27 million deaths and contributing to nearly 5 million deaths worldwide in 2019. Recognizing its severity, the World Health Organization (WHO) has identified AMR as one of the top ten threats to global health(Murray et al., 2022). By 2050, global economic losses linked to AMR are projected to reach USD 100–210 trillion, with Asia bearing a disproportionate mortality burden (O’Neill, 2016). Countries like India, with large livestock populations, rapidly growing aquaculture industries, and high human antibiotic consumption, represent critical hotspots where food, health, and environmental risks intersect (Chauhan et al., 2018; ICMR, 2020). Given these alarming trends, understanding the occurrence, detection, and consequences of antibiotic residues in foods of animal origin is paramount. This chapter explores the co-relationship between origin of antibiotic residues and AMR, regulatory measures aimed to safeguard food safety and strategies for prevention and control, framed within the One Health approach.

It is reasonable to consider that the history of humanity has been marked by two transformational revolutions: the cognitive revolution (35,000 to 70,000 years ago), when Homo sapiens began to manifest our capacity to abstract, imagine things that did not exist and give meaning to non-representational thoughts; the agricultural revolution (10,000 to 12,000 years ago), when Homo sapiens stopped being a hunter/collector to settle on land, cultivating the soil and raising domesticated animals. It was possibly the beginning of property ownership, monogamy, family and also when malaria, and other diseases more easily spread in communities, became consolidated as human diseases. It was with the cognitive revolution that things changed and our previously acquired abilities of creating images and dealing with abstract concepts started to push humankind to become the “Dominant Mammal” controlling all other animals and Earth’s environments. Progressively, man learned to work with wood, iron and all minerals extracted from the soil, produced clothes with leather and wool from animals, linen and cotton from plants, silk from insects, and latter from natural oils created arts, jewellery, dynamite, electricity, vaccines, transatlantic ships, locomotives, cars, computers, antibiotics, contraceptives, robots, portable cell phones, informatics, bioengineering, internet, artificial intelligence, social networks and many other innovations . Not surprisingly, conscious of all these attributes, man felt important, central and essential, falling into the temptation of judging himself a magnificent creature with all rights and that became deep rooted in some cultures. For the pleasure,comfort, sophistication and power, man interfered with and altered the environment in a so ambitious and predatory manner that he modified and compromised his and other species living conditions, causing also climate changes that threaten his own survival on the planet. With time, it became clear that, in addition to this entirely anthropocentric “Ego’s” point of view, there might be another perspective fromwhich one can perceive the world and interact with it. An ecological “Eco’s” perspective corresponds to a compassionate view (how can we contribute to the greater good and make the world a better place) of the Globe. After all the damage done to nature by man, moving from the socalled Ego to the Eco attitude became a mandatory needConcerning Global Health, for a long-time, human health has benefited by sacrificing the “health” of wild ecosystems (e.g., deforestation and conversion of wilderness to farmland, damming of water for irrigation, destruction of swamps and dislocation and jeopardy of wild species) which reflects a protectionist vs utilitarian conflict, over the question of whether to put human domination of the biosphere on hold or whether to embrace it .It hides unaddressed concerns about the value of (macroscopic) life (human, animal or plant), the definitions of health and wellbeing (human, animal, plant and environmental) and their relative importance. This has hampered the development and acceptance of a One Health (OH) understanding of Global Health.

The rhythm of life for a significant portion of the world‘s population is intrinsically linked to the cyclical patterns of monsoons. These seasonal winds, predominantly experienced within the tropics between 20° North and 20° South latitude, dictate not only the climate but also the agricultural productivity across vast regions spanning South Asia, East Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas. This dependence is starkly highlighted by the fact that a considerable proportion of the world‘s arable land relies solely on rainfall, with monsoons being the primary source of this vital resource. In India alone, for instance, nearly half of the agricultural land is rainfed, a figure indicative of the broader reliance on monsoonal patterns in many other nations within these regions. Agriculture, the primary source of livelihood for many in these monsooninfluenced areas, remains heavily dependent on the timely arrival and consistent behavior of these rains. The delicate dance between the monsoon and agricultural cycles has shaped cultural practices, economic structures, and societal well-being for centuries. It is estimated that a substantial percentage of global agricultural production is reliant on monsoonal rainfall, underscoring the profound impact these weather systems have on food security and economic stability worldwide. The variability of monsoons – in terms of onset, intensity, duration, and spatial distribution – directly translates into fluctuations in crop yields, impacting everything from local food supplies and farmer incomes to national economies and international trade. Beyond the economic implications, the social vulnerability associated with monsoon variability cannot be overstated. Communities that depend on rainfed agriculture are particularly susceptible to the vagaries of the monsoon. Delayed or weak monsoons can lead to widespread crop failures, resulting in food shortages, economic hardship, and even migration. Conversely, excessively heavy rains can cause devastating floods, destroying crops, infrastructure, and livelihoods. Therefore, understanding, monitoring, and, crucially, forecasting the behavior of monsoons is not merely an academic exercise but a critical necessity for ensuring the prosperity and resilience of a significant portion of the global population.
