Introduction

Women entrepreneurship in economic development of any nation has been recognised for its significant contribution. The women folk can be considered as backbone of any nation. Now time has come for women empowerment. In rural Odisha, women not only play an important role for agricultural development but also plays significant role in allied agricultural sector such as dairy, fishery, poultry, mushroom production etc. In Indian condition dairy has been considered as “Rural Banking” as it is practiced mostly by majority of the marginal, small and landless farm families for their sustenance and livelihood. The role of rural women for animal husbandry is of paramount importance. In this sector they are managers as well as decision makers. Women do more than 80% dairy operation like cleaning, feeding, milking, marketing of milk and milk products. The state and central government initiate several scheme, programmes and projects for empowerment of women through various micro enterprises including dairy. Against this background a study was undertaken to identify the constraint faced by women entrepreneur in dairy sector in Khordha district of Odisha.

Introduction

Agriculture and allied sectors have always been the backbone of the Indian economy and despite concerted industrialization in the last six decades agriculture still occupies a place of pride. The significance of agriculture in the national economy arises from the role it plays in India’s national income, employment generation and export earnings; this can be seen from the provisional estimate on contribution of various sectors to the GDP in the f irst quarter of 2020-21, particularly during COVID-19 pandemic, positive percentage change (+3.4) over previous year when all other sectors have negative change.

The impacts on the various facets of life – agriculture and food processing – need no longer be addressed in a way that is well established. Nearly every aspect of the planet has shown its effect at different rates, both positively and negatively. As a subtropical region, India is also witnessing different variations in weather and an increase in temperature that affect farming. Only in recent years has the potential to reduce transpiration from plants by the use of chemicals been further explored. These antitranspirants can either control perspiration by filming the leaf surface or by manipulating the aperture of the stomach. Antitranspirants are the materials or chemicals that reduce the water loss from plant leaves by reducing stomata size and number. During transpiration, almost 99 per cent of the water consumed by the plant is lost.

India is well known for its rich flora and fauna and is referred as one of the richest biodiversity nations of the world. The mammalian population of India is a combination of Palaearctic, Oriental and Afro-tropical fauna (Sahajpal et al. 2009). It is the home of 400 different mammalian species, 129 of these species are protected under Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 (India) and an arbitrator to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) (Nameer, 2015). Illegal trade of the wildlife for preparation of various products is the common issue in the conservation and is also responsible for regional extinction of the species.

13.1 Meaning of Dummy Variables

In econometrics, particularly in regression analysis, a dummy variable is also known as “Indicator variable or Binary variable or qualitative variable”. It is one which takes the value (0 or 1) to indicate the absence or presence of some categorical effect that may be expressed to shift the outcome, e.g.

i) Literate (1) and Illiterate (0)

 ii) Male (1) and female (0)

iii) Farmers in a cross sectional data in terms of year with normal weather condition (1) and year with abnormal weather condition (0).

19.1 Introduction

The farm management comprises of two words: ‘farm’ and ‘management’. Literally ‘farm’ means a piece of land where crops and livestock enterprises are taken up under a common management and has a specific boundaries. ‘Management’ means the act or art of managing, the agricultural production or enterprises etc.

26.1 Introduction

In a single equation model, the dependent variable Y is expressed as a linear function of one or more explanatory variables (say X1 , X2 , ... XK ). In such models, an implicate assumption is that the cause and effect relationship between (Y, Xs) is unidirectional. Here explanatory variables are the cause and the dependent variable Y is the effect.

However, there are some situations where two way flow of influence among economic variables exists. Thus one economic variable affects other economic variables and in turn is affected by them. Thus, in the regression of money M on the rate of interest r, the single-equation method assumes implicitly that the rate of interest r is fixed and it is tried to find out the response of money demanded when the level of interest rate is changed.

Disease is one of those terms that are very difficult to define. It is realized that disease (literally dis-ease) implies lack of ‘comfort’and therefore, involves deviation from normal functioning. From time to time several definitions which have been proposed, in fact descriptive but not simultaneously exclusive. The definitions for the term disease are.

1. Growth of plant pathogens

Various plant pathogens, namely fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viruses, viroids, mollicutes, fastidious bacteria, and protozoa, grow in different ways.

1.1 Fungi and parasitic higher plants

Fungal pathogens and parasitic higher plants usually invade and infect tissues by growing on or in them from the first point of inoculation.

Most of these pathogens, whether they cause small lesions or large infected areas on the plant, grow, branch, and spread to more and more plant tissues until the infection stops spreading or the plant dies.

We performed a detailed hands-on practical on ‘Shrimp Health Examination’ at the Pathology Necroscopy room on 29th September 2023. Several activities regarding the health examination of shrimp were performed. It included, the collection of blood from an in-between portion of pereiopods and pleopods, also making blood smears on a glass slide, staining, and observation of blood cells under a microscope. Collection of samples from hepatopancreas for microbial culture to know the presence of any pathogen present. Collection of body part samples like gill, pleopods, and telson to observe the presence of external parasites. The species used health examination Whiteleg shrimp (Litopennaenus vannamei).

Introduction

Water is the chief factor in fish farming. Water carries oxygen, eliminate metabolic waste products, through its physical and chemical composition, determine the success of production. The major constraint is that the waste organic matter released into water.

Measurement of pH, temperature, conductivity, salinity, transparency, turbidity and solids are important parameters to play role in water quality. pH in water changes during the day and night in response to photo-synthesis which is supported by the sun light intensity. Temperature is a physical parameter which effected on fish growth as resulting of many bio-chemical processes. It changes with the time depending on air temperature surrounding site.

We visited The Model Sea Farm Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on 10/10/2023 at 1 pm It is a government farm located at Phetchaburi Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about seaweed production and zero waste aquaculture system.

1) Sea ranching

Species used for sea ranching was Banana shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis). 2 months old shrimps were collected from tank and used for ranching

The ITAF participants visited the Anuban Tilapia Floating Cage Culture on the Canoy River situated in the central part of Thailand on 11/10/2023 at 1:30 p.m. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the floating cage culture on a large scale.

Construction Details

The farmer had a total 500 number of cages divided into 5 units i.e. 1 unit contains 100 cages. The dimensions of the floating cage are 7m in length, 5m in width and 2m in depth having an area of 70 m3. The fabrication of the cage was done by using the GI pipes attached to the barrels for buoyancy. The double HDPE netting was done from five sides and on the upper side bird net was fixed as a biosecurity measure. The construction cost of the cage was 140000 baht /cage.

On the morning of 13 Oct 2023 morning (9:30 am - 12:00 pm), ITAF participants visited snake-skin gourami local farms in Samut scorn province. Snake-skin gourami is one of the best delicacies in Thailand which has large demand in local and international markets. Snake-skin gourami can breed after reaching 100-200 gms ( 2 months). The culture period of snake- skin gourami is 9-10 months. In snake- skin gourami males have a large body and long dorsal fin than females.

Farm 1

Snake-skin gourami culture is done in 30 rai ( 1 rai= 1600 m2) area of the farm. The depth of the pond is 1.5m. A single crop is taken in one year. 50,000 no. of fry are stocked in 30 rai area. Feeding areas are constructed by the net embankment where feed is given to fish harvesting is done after 8-9 months. The cost of production for one crop is 2 million/year in that they produce 30-40 tonnes /30 rai, which is almost 3 million / year.

We, the participants of ITAF2023 visited Sriracha fisheries research station under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Naphat Panthukumbol and Dr. Somrat Taweedet on 16/10/23 at 08:00am. The research station is under faculty of fisheries, Kasetsart university in Chonburi Province. The purpose of visit was to learn about the mussel aquaculture and Integrated Multi- Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA).

1) Mussel aquaculture

Cultured species was Perna viridis( Green mussel ). Almost all rafts were owned by fishermen and 10 rafts were under the management of sriracha fisheries research station. The cost of production was 100 baht /acre. Simple method of culture is practiced by installing rafts before breeding season and allowing the natural spawn to attach. The harvesting size of mussel is 8 cm. Observed growth rate is 1cm/ month. Other maintenance includes repairing of ropes ,buoys etc. during off-season. Farmers face many constraints like plankton bloom, waste water discharge, predation by sting ray,parasitism during summer months.

We, the participants of ITAF2023 visited The ocean farm under the guidance of Asst.Prof.Dr.Naphat Panthukumbol and Dr.Somrat Taweedet on 17/10/23 at 3:00 pm. The farm is certified by fisheries department and is located in Chonburi Province. The purpose of visit was to learn about the nursery rearing of shrimp and use of frozen artemia.

1) Nursery rearing details

The cultured species was Litopenaeus vannamei. Rearing was done from nauplii to PL15 stage. The farm is producing 2 variants named- ‘The ocean hero’ which is disease resistant and ‘The ocean speedy’ having high growth rate. They are procuring nauplii from Phuket. Then double certification from DOF and Burapha university lab is done to ensure SPF stock. The purchasing price of nauplii is 12,000 baht/ million nauplii and transportation done by plane. The culture period of shrimp is around 21 days.

Introduction

The minimum dissolved oxygen (DO) level that fish can safely tolerate depends upon temperature and to a certain extent the species. Volubility of oxygen increases as temperature decreases. In ponds, DO can change dramatically over a 24-hour period. During the day oxygen is produced by photosynthesis, the process by which green plants convert water and carbon dioxide in the presence of light, to oxygen and carbohydrates. During the night and day oxygen is consumed by respiration, the process by which plants and animals use oxygen to produce carbon dioxide as they burn carbohydrates, but in the day photosynthesis usually produces more oxygen than is used.

Aim: Perform the parallel operation of single-phase transformer and observe the load sharing of each transformer.

A power transformer is one of the most vital and an equally expensive component in a power system. It may so happen that, over time, due to load growth in its service area, an existing transformer may not be able to withstand the demand during peak-hours without exceeding its long-term MVA rating. Operating a transformer in such a fashion would cause overheating and degrade its expected life. In most cases, instead of commissioning an entirely new higher capacity unit, a more viable alternative exists in adding a smaller unit in parallel to complement the existing one. In other words, a new smaller capacity transformer can now be connected in parallel to the existing one such that the two shares a large peak load in a specific proportion and the one operating near limits is relieved of the burden.

Aim: Perform an experiment to determine the parameters of a three-phase induction machine.

As the circuit modal of an induction motor is similar to that of a transformer, the parameter of the modal can be obtained by no-load test and blocked rotor test.

No-load test

In this test, the motor is to run at no-load at rated voltage and frequency. The applied voltage and current and power input is measured. Power input at no load (Po ) provides only the losses that are rotational losses.

Currently, the agricultural industry is expanding exponentially. Improved economic growth and rapid population growth have spurred investor interest in the agricultural industry. The World Bank estimates it to be worth $3 trillion. With the urbanization and industrialization of the agricultural sector, the amount of waste generated has also increased, causing many environmental problems. About 5 million metric tons of biomass are produced annually from agriculture. These agricultural wastes become breeding grounds for pathogenic microorganisms if not properly treated and recycled, it is noteworthy that this agricultural waste can be used as substrates for the synthesis of valuable product or as raw material for renewable energy production.

About the Lower Bhavani Project

The Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) is located in Tamil Nadu in Bhavani River, irrigates 83980 ha in two seasons in a year. The canal water supply is provided for one wet crop from August to December (41885 ha) and one dry crop from January to April (41885 ha). The cultivated area under LBP in Erode and Coimbatore districts are irrigated lands with canals and groundwater, and rainfed crop lands (with supplemental groundwater irrigation).

Participatory curriculum development (PCD) in extension education is an emerging approach to help and improve the quality of education in farm universities. The main steps of the PCD approach adopted here have high practical utility for the design of formal course contents for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Agricultural Extension. A great deal of thinking is required while deciding on how much participation will be required from which stakeholders, at what level(s).

To address the present day problems in agriculture and horticultural sectors and also to equip the graduating and postgraduate agricultural students, the ICAR has been continuously striving to bring necessary reforms for quality enhancement in agricultural education. The Council has appointed National Core Group and BSMA Committee for revision and restructuring of Post graduate and Doctoral syllabi in consultation with all the stakeholders to meet the challenges and harness opportunities in various disciplines of agriculture and allied sciences. It has been felt that a paradigm shift is necessary in academic regulations to comply with various provisions of National Education Policy-2020. The syllabus of Masters’ and Doctoral programs was restructured and new courses were introduced.

Identify main reasons and purpose of curriculum development and key areas needed by stakeholders for curriculum change. This can be done by adopting participatory methods like Focus group discussion/ field level workshops. Carry out stakeholder analysis and identify specific potential areas suggested by stakeholders to be included in the curriculum for better performance at the f ield level and their likely role in the process. In order to encourage greater stakeholder involvement invite stakeholders such as staff and students from various farm universities, field extension workers and farmers.

The primitive people were living as part of the environment along with other f lora and fauna in a perfect synchrony. Prior to industrialisation the people were living in an environment friendly manner without causing much damage to natural resources. During the time they were making good progress and were building huge structures which are of technical excellence even today. Post industrialisation the whole scenario changed very fast. The population increased many fold, people started making more goods than required to have a market hold to earn more – the human greed increased beyond limit.

3.1 Introduction

Eggs are composed of three main parts; the eggshell with the eggshell membrane, the albumen or white, and the yolk. The yolk is surrounded by albumen, which in turn is enveloped by eggshell membranes and finally a hard eggshell.

3.2 Eggshell

The eggshell is composed of a foamy layer of cuticle, a calcite or calcium carbonate layer, and two shell membranes. The ultrastructurally the eggshell includes shell membranes, mammillary zone, calcium reserve assembly, palisades, and cuticle, with 7,000 – 17,000 funnel shaped pore canals distributed unevenly on the shell surface for exchange for water and gases

4.1 Introduction

The egg is made up of three primary components: the egg white, the egg yolk, and the egg shell. The calcite crystals of the shell are enmeshed in a protein and carbohydrate complex matrix. About 58% of the weight of an egg is made up of the viscous, colourless liquid termed egg white inside the shell. About 75% of the weight of an egg’s edible component is made up of water, although proteins and lipids make up the majority of its nutritional worth (Table 4.1). There are also trace quantities of minerals, often known as ash, and carbohydrates, which take the form of simple sugars including glucose, sucrose, fructose, lactose, maltose, and galactose.

Eggs are an essential food for humans due to the high nutritional quality and quantity that they contain. Eggs are one of the most consumed foods all over the world because of its nutritious profile, range of uses, and relatively inexpensive cost as a food source. Intakes of total lipids, cholesterol, and saturated fatty acids in human diets can be attributed, in part, to the consumption of animal products. Due to the high amounts of cholesterol (about 200-300 mg/100 g) and saturated fat (approximately 3 g/100 g), eggs have been considered to be contentious foods by several health organisations and nutritional experts.

18.1 Introduction

The egg industry has grown quickly in the last decade as people’s eating habits have become more aware of the importance of good and nutritious diets. Eggs are now widely accepted as a good source of high-quality protein. However, at the same time, the eggshell that pollutes the environment is discharged into the open. This eggshell waste can be used to make a variety of items, including pharmaceuticals and medicines. Additionally, this raw material is inexpensive and conveniently accessible. Eggshells are ranked as the fifteenth biggest environmental pollutant.

Different types of Romanowsky type of stains are used for staining the cytological smears. It will give excellent cytoplasmic and nuclear details and it also stains bacteria. The following stains are commonly used. e.g., Wrights, Giemsa, Leishman, Wright-Giemsa, May-Grunwald-Giemsa, Leishman-Giemsa, Haematoxylin and Eosin, Diffquik stains, Trichrome stains, Papanicolaou or Sano modification.

A cow is called repeat breeder when it has failed to conceive even after three or more number of services, has normal estrus cycle length, no abnormal vaginal discharge, no palpable abnormality in the reproductive tract, has calved at least once before and is less than ten years of age. Repeat breeding is one of the most important infertility problem faced by field veterinarians.

Main Points that Need to be Known by a Farmer About Repeat Breeding Cow

• Signs of estrus like vaginal discharge and its color, bellowing, mounting etc

• Time of estrus as observed by owner (morning, evening etc)

• Vaginal discharge whether clear or mucopurulent/purulent

• Duration of estrus

• Inter-estrous interval

• Number of inseminations

In subclinical endometritis (SCE), there is inflammation of the internal lining of uterus (endometrium). It is one of the major causes of repeat breeding in cattle and causes significant reduction of reproductive performance. Cervico- vaginal mucus in subclinical endometritis is clear in contrast to endometritis. It is also called cytological endometritis and is associated with increased proportion (percentage) of polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) in endometrial cytology samples. SCE affected cows have delayed first service and subsequent pregnancy causing significant economic losses due to reduction in reproductive performance, feed intake increase per lactation, milk yield reduction and increase in culling rate.

Retained fetal membrane (RFM) in cow is a condition in which fetal membranes or placenta fail to separate and expelled by 12-24 hours after the birth of calf. It is a common in bovines and is usually associated with dystocia, abortion etc. Retained placenta in bovines predisposes the animal to uterine infection and thereby leads to infertility.

Uterine torsion in cow is actually the rotation of the pregnant uterus on its longitudinal axis and usually occurs before onset or during late first stage of parturition but rarely encountered during early second stage of parturition. In cattle, uterine torsion involves both gravid and non gravid horns because of strong intercornual ligament and distension of uterine horn and body with placenta and fluid. The remarkable feature of uterine torsion is its association with advanced pregnancy and process of parturition in cow.

Estrus is referred to as the period of estrous cycle during which the female animal allows the male for mating. It is the period of estrous cycle during which insemination is done to female animal so that the animal will become pregnant. During estrus, cow usually seeks out the male and ’stands’ for him to mate her. In all domestic species, Ovulation occurs during this phase of the cycle but in case of cow, ovulation occurs about 12 hours after the end of estrus period.

Vaccination of cattle and prevention of diseases causing huge economic losses is very much essential for economic rearing of livestock as prophylactic and strategic vaccination helps in development of immunity against the vaccinated diseases thereby prevents the animals from developing such infections and consequent diseases. Animals should be vaccinated at specific age and at definite time intervals for optimal protection against the diseases.

8.1 Recommendations

The specific recommendation for NAZ in promoting CA are

• Since fragmentation has come out as a barrier to CA, the community based CA entrepreneurship will be more successful to make CA ecologically resilient, economically viable and socially adoptable.
• Crop residues are viable source for soil nutrients including organic carbon replenishment, but unfortunately left over crop residues are either burnt out or wrongly used. So, a community bank on crop residues in the form of bio-parks on a commercial basis can be a dependable source of organic manure for being blended into the farm soil. Auditing on volume of disposable CR and its proper application can help in making operating farm more resilient and productive.
• Since CA farmers have to go through a minimum gestation period and they are expected to contribute to the ecological resilience and carbon sequestration, economic incentives must be extended for their productive as well as stewardship function. A policy promulgation is the need of the hour to support their contribution
• Since fragmentation of holding poses a potential threat to resource energy biodiversity and economic conservation, so a strong land and farm policy needs to be there to abate disintegration and fragmentation of holding

The concept of good governance is related to all branches of social sciences, especially, to political science, public administration, and economics. The term governance has become synonymous to sound development management. The concept of "governance" not new, it is as old as government itself. The term governance has become synonymous to sound development management. In recent times the concept of Good Governance first emerged in the mid-1980s as governability with the emphasis on adherence to the rule of law.

Government

Government is a territorial based body that makes authoritative decisions (for which it has constitutional or legislative authority) that are binding on residents and businesses within its boundaries. It is the executive arm of the state. Government refers to actions carried out within a formal legal setting; governance involves all activities of government along with formal activities even outside a formal governmental setting, which are meant to achieve common goals.

Governance is the process of governing through which decisions are made that are intended to affect societal outcomes, including economic, social, environmental and other important outcomes. It encompasses the direct and indirect roles of formal institutions of local government and government hierarchies, as well as the roles of informal norms, networks, community organizations, and neighborhood associations in pursuing collective actions.

Microgreens are tiny seedlings of some wild species as well as edible herbs, cereals, and vegetables. They are developed from the seeds of vegetables, legumes, herbs, and cereals and are regarded as immature greens (requiring light for photosynthesis and growing medium). They are picked shortly after the single set of true leaves has emerged from the cotyledon leaves. According to Xiao et al. (2012), microgreens have 4-6 times the nutritional density of their mature counterparts.

Importance of Light in Microgreens Growth

Microgreens depend heavily on light for their growth and development. Microgreens, being photosynthetic organisms, are very dependent on light for the process of photosynthesis, which produces energy. Sufficient exposure to light is necessary for the production of chlorophyll, for vigorous leaf growth, and for the accumulation of beneficial chemicals such carotenoids and phenolics (Mocanu et al., 2021). Research by Demotes-Mainard et al. (2016) and Kopsell et al. (2005) highlights the direct relationship between microgreens' phytochemical composition and light quality, showing how changes in light spectrum affect it.
