Urban climatology deals with changes in climatic conditions that prevail in large cities and towns that differ from the surroundings. Urban climates are influenced by large built-up areas, increased human activities and dense population and are found to experience differences in temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction and rainfall compared to adjoining areas. Tall buildings, paved streets and parking lots affect radiation balance, wind flow and run-off. The atmosphere in urban areas will have higher concentration of pollutants like carbon monoxide, oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, hydrocarbons, oxidants and particulate matters. Heavy concentration of air pollutants will have considerable impact on temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation in and around urban areas. Heavy concentrations of air pollutants for longer periods or several days may lead to temperature inversions. The temperature inversions prevent convection and vertical movement of air. The centre of urban area will be warmer by even 5 to 6°C compared to adjoining areas. During summer months, the concrete structures absorb, store and reradiate more solar energy per unit area compared to vegetation. During nights, radiative losses from urban buildings and roads keep city warmer than the rural areas. The average relative humidity in cities is usually lower due to lack of evapotranspiration from vegetation. The mean wind speed will be 20 to 30 percent due to increased frictional drag induced by built up urban terrain (Fig.17.1).

17.1. Urban Heat Islands
An urban heat island is a type of microclimate that is created when an urban area becomes warmer than the surrounding area. It is common in large cities (Fig.17.2). The characteristic features of urban heat islands are as follows:
• Increased temperature
• Large temperature difference by even 5 to 6°C
• The south facing buildings receive more sunlight in the northern hemisphere
• The tall buildings in urban areas create streets that act like deep valley
• The albedo will be very less. The darker areas lead to more absorption of incoming solar radiation and emit more of long wave radiation
• The concrete structures are built with materials having low specific heat. Therefore, concrete structures warm up faster and lead to quick rise in temperature
• The higher density of buildings reduces wind speeds.

Introduction
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as one of the most pressing global health threats, with implications that extend beyond human medicine to animal health, food security, and the environment. In livestock production systems, the misuse and overuse of antibiotics contribute significantly to the development of resistant pathogens. These resistant organisms can spread from animals to humans through direct contact, contaminated food products, and environmental pathways. The containment of AMR in livestock is not solely a technical or regulatory challenge—it is also a social and behavioral issue. Public awareness, education, and behavioural change are key pillars of any effective AMR mitigation strategy. Description and Distribution
The dried leaves and flowering tops of Artemisia dracunculus Linn. constitute what is known as “Tarragon”, or, “Estragon”, so well - known to connoissuers, the world over, for its extraordinary flavor. Sometimes, it is also called French Tarragon. Its aroma is warm, aromatic, and reminiscent of Anise. It is a perennial herb found in Western Tibet (4265-4880 meter above mean sea level) and in Lahaul. It is distributed in Afghanistan, Western Asia and South and Middle Russia. It is cultivated in Southern Europe, (France, Spain), temperate zones in the USA, as well as, throughout the colder New England area. It grows to a height of about 2 feet (Pruthi, 1997).

Description and Distribution
A near relative of Turnip, Cabbage and Mustard. It is one of the oldest condiments, and is a well-known, large-leaved, hardy perennial in many long-established gardens. It is the thick, white, fleshy, tasty root of the Horse- Radish, which is highly prized as an appetizing condiment which goes well with many food items. A native of the marshy districts of Eastern Europe, it is grown in the USA, and to some extent in the gardens, both in the northern India and in the hill stations of the southern India. In the USA, about 7 million kilograms of Horse-Radish are processed annually for consumption as food. Cultivated over 1500 acres in the USA, its varieties are classified into two types, namely, Common and Bohemian. The Common type has, broad, crinkled leaves and produces a root of high quality. The Bohemian type has, narrow, smooth leaves, is diseaseresistant, but, yields poorer quality roots. Horse-Radish plant is highly sterile and hence is propagated asexually by the root. The tap root is tuberous and cylindrical, 30 cm long and about 18mm in diameter, possesses an acrid, pungent taste, and, when scraped or bruised, emits a characteristic pungent odor (Guenther, 1973). The root contains a pungent, acrid and vesicating volatile oil. The pungency is due to the presence of “Sinigrin”(potassium myronate), a sulfur-containing glucoside, which, in the presence of water and under the influence of an enzyme myrosinase, yields allyl mustard oil or allyl isothiocyanate, as by mustard seeds (Willstater and Stoll, 1918, Stoll and Seeback, 1948).

The yesteryear concept of employing one or two acclaimed anaesthetic drugs to produce sedation and general anaesthesia is now switching over to the era of balanced sedation and balanced anaesthesia. The theory of balanced anaesthesia entails achieving the state of general anaesthesia with the proportionate administration of a mixture of small amounts of several neuronal depressant drugs which summates the advantages of the individual drugs but not their disadvantages (Bettschart-Wolfensberger and Larenza, 2007). Knowledge about balanced anesthesia and targeted effects of drugs on neuronal pathways has started to influence veterinary anaesthetists worldwide. But there are many constraints for a vast majority of veterinary practitioners in India to follow this emerging modality of anaesthetic practice. It is almost impractical for most of them to get the assistance of a veterinary anaesthesiologist every time. So they experience complexities to deal with the pharmacological dosing of multiple component drugs of balanced anaesthetic protocols. Memorising the doses and calculating the volume of injection of multiple component drugs where the doses of some drugs has to be calculated in milligram per kilogram body weight while others have to be calculated in microgram per kilogram body weight becomes a cumbersome task for the practitioner. Moreover, many of these anaesthetic drugs are available in ampoules, and hence multiple ampoules have to be broken for every single surgery; consuming a lot of time. Wastage of the leftover anaesthetic in opened ampoules is another concern. Unavailability of some drugs at some areas is another issue the practitioner faces. These challenges constrain the practitioner from practicing balanced anaesthesia and most of them lean on the verily familiar conventional anaesthetic protocol, based exclusively on one or two frequently used drugs, for almost all the surgical procedures of varying depth. Since only one or two anaesthetic drugs are involved in the protocol, the drugs have to be used at its upper limit of pharmacological doses to achieve the desired endpoints of anaesthesia. This will increase the probable risk of undesired side effects of these drugs. The challenges that restrict our practitioners from advancing beyond the era of sole reliance on one or two drugs for producing the state of anaesthesia has to be addressed and measures to resolve these issues have to be evolved to promote and equip our veterinary practitioners to practice the safer technique of balanced anaesthesia. Ketamine and Propofol - “Ketofol”
“Ketofol’’ is a 1:1 (w:w) combination of ketamine and propofol (Taboada and Leece, 2014; Thejasree et al., 2018). The advantages of using both ketamine and propofol in combination (Ketofol) include analgesia, rapid recovery, preservation of airways and maintenance of spontaneous respiration and haemodynamic stability (Saeed, 2011). The admixture has benefits of both drugs, while reducing the side effects of the individual drugs when administered alone (Amornyotin, 2014; Lee and Lee, 2016; Mirfazaelian et al., 2016). Propofol-induced respiratory depression is less with the admixture, while analgesia and cardiorespiratory functions are good due to ketamine (Amornyotin, 2014; Mirfazaelian et al., 2016). Since the adverse effects are dose dependent, the combination helps reduce the dose of the individual drug needed to cause the desired anaesthetic effects. This combination of ketamine and propofol can be used to induce anaesthesia following sedation with any of the previously mentioned balanced sedative cocktails. Induction should be “titrated to effect” based on the depth of sedation achieved from the administration of the balanced sedative cocktails.
Thiopentone and Propofol - “Thio-propofol”
Thio-propofol is a 1:1 vol:vol mixture of 2.5% thiopentone and 1% propofol (Ko et al., 1999; Evans et al., 2002; Larisa et al., 2008). Since the mechanisms of action of propofol and thiopentone are similar, the mixture provides an additive hypnotic interaction (Vinik et al., 1999) and behaves in-between to that of the

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.), a tropical perennial tree native to West Africa, is the most productive oilseed crop for biodiesel, yielding up to 5 tons of oil per hectare (Mekhilef et al., 2011). Indonesia and Malaysia are the largest global producers, accounting for over 85% of the world’s palm oil (Atabani et al., 2012). Palm oil is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm and is widely used in both food and fuel applications. However, its cultivation has raised environmental concerns, including deforestation, habitat loss, and carbon emissions (Gui et al., 2008). Efforts are being made to promote sustainable palm oil production to mitigate these impacts (Mekhilef et al., 2011). Deforestation, habitat loss, and carbon emissions are only a few of the serious environmental issues brought on by its cultivation (Fargione et al., 2008). Oil palm plantation growth has been connected to a decline in biodiversity, especially in tropical rainforests that are home to endangered species like Sumatran tigers and orangutans (Fitzherbert et al., 2008). According to Carlson et al. (2013), the conversion of peatlands for the production of oil palm contributes to climate change by increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
History of Oil Palm as Biodiesel Feedstock
Oil palm has been used for cooking and lighting for thousands of years in Africa and Southeast Asia (Obahiagbon, 2012). Research into its use as a biodiesel feedstock began in the 1980s, with Malaysia pioneering biodiesel development (Zainal et al.,2017).
• 1982: The Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM) successfully tested palm oil-based biodiesel in diesel engines (Yusoff, 2006).
• Early 2000s: Commercial production expanded in Indonesia and Malaysia, driven by government policies and renewable fuel demand (Mekhilef, 2011).
• Sustainability challenges have led to the establishment of certification schemes such as the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) (Ruysschaert & Salles, 2014).

To most of us Prof. Swaminathan was a great Scientist, humanist and true global leader. I am blessed to have been associated with Prof. Swaminathan. 2.1 Introduction
Typically, milk is obtained from domesticated animals (water buffalo, sheep, or goats) under farm-level circumstances. In smaller amounts, it can be utilized directly after boiling; but, in larger quantities, processing and storage are crucial. Farms provide their milk to milk vendors, who collect it in cans and deliver it to chilling centers or dairy processing plants. After milking, the milk is quickly chilled to 4°C, or it should be pasteurized and packaged within two hours. Before being marketed, milk must be pasteurized, with the exception of products that initially require raw milk or those that require direct application of heat, such as desiccation or another heating process. The market for novel goods and procedures is steadily growing. The main causes include rising disposable incomes, shifting consumer attitudes and concerns about safety, hygiene, and nutrition, and the entry of foreign companies.

There is an enormous diversity of fermented dairy products globally, with each product’s characteristics influenced by the local strains used in the fermentation process.

If capital and resources are to be assigned to a plan to utilise by-products, their processing must be economically viable. Therefore, it is essential to prioritise the research and development of cost-effective technologies for the improving and utilisation of dairy by-products. 30.1 Introduction
